got this specifically to carry in a hunting pack. the handle is lightweight, the blade is actually a pretty good compromise between compact and useable. it isnt going to be splitting firewood, it seems a bit too light for that. it will mostly be hiding away in my pack for 1)chopping when meat processing requires it and 2) just in case. will have to wait until next year to really test it fully, but it appears to be just what i was looking for. and i found it much cheaper elsewhere.

Didn't come sharp took me over a hour to get or sharp. I will say it chops good amd splits I bought another axe and it was to skinny and light this one split great

Since when does Gerber send a product that is totally dull...no sharp edge whatsoever. I am thinking of returning it. I see it is no longer available. Know I know why. Cant recommend.Slide out storage compartment hard to release. Not as bad as the other reviewer but not the quality Gerber has been know for.Very Disappointed.

Life long Gerber fan. . .till now!Great looking Hatchet BUT the handle compartment was stuck and took a couple of hours to get unstuck. Pretty unforgivable for a Gerber product!I had to insert a small razor blade into the area above the button on the handle and gradually carve the over molded plastic lip off of the handle to finally get the compartment open. Sounds easy but it wasn't at all! After a ton of carving and prying the button finally depressed and using a screwdriver as a pry bar I finally got it open! *#!??^#*/!!!!Gerber crammed two WARNING packets in the space where the mini lighter compartment is that were bulged out and added even more difficulty in getting the compartment out after I finally got the plastic lip carved back and got it open.Once inside I was able to take a razor blade and plane the bulged plastic off completely and now the handle compartment snaps in and RELEASES as it should! Unless you are really handy you will never get this Sum Bi_ch open!The blade came dull as a butter knife with ZERO edge and requires filing and stoning to get any kind of edge.IF the steel is decent I will come back and amend my review. . .maybe. . .?Just buy a Fiskars and be done with it!
