We are in an area with very hard water. I use my icemaker 24/7 and it needs frequent cleanings. The water tends to leave deposits in the tank area and I am sure in other parts of the device. When I cleaned it a few days ago, I used one of these Descaling Powder packets. It has a "clean" function where it circulates the water. When I opened the lid after the cleaning, I could see little particles floating in the water. I did two cycles of the clean function and then rinsed 4 times before adding filtered water and making ice. We have not detected any off flavors or odors since using this descaling powder. I would say this is a good product to use for cleaning your countertop icemaker!
