If anything this is a little more powerful fill-light than I had on my older camera bodies. There's been times I really wished my current cameras still had one. You can't always anticipate when you could use a little extra light. Hiking is one of the cases where a fill light can really make or break a shot. Taking a speedlight "just in case" isn't reasonable when traveling ligh with space at a premium. This little Godox IM30 is small enough to go in a pocket, there if and when needed. It's not all that bright, but probably produces more light and with better spread than any of the on-camera pop-ups I've had. It's been great out in the field, useful enough that one stays in my camera bag and another in my small backpack. They last quite a while too. The one in my backpack has been called numerous times now, and not yet needing a recharge. II didn't realize how much I would use a small flash before getting the Godox iM30's. I really was missing out and making do with available light when I didn't need to. It's a very compact and brighter than expected light you should have in your bag for those times you didn't figure to need one.

I shoot a lot of live events and am always looking for compact gear. This was a great choice as packs a punch and has enough settings too customise your shots.I was really surprised how easy it was to setup. I've used flashes that can be really specific in their setup but this was plug and play. The build is quite sturdy and feels like hard plastic.Really like this flash and can certainly recommend it!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Omg, I have been wanting a Godox light for the longest but it’s so expensive. I came across this Godox product and couldn’t believe it. I had to get it. I have a Sony ZV-E 10 and for whatever reason, this camera doesn’t have a FLASH!! For the price, I thought it would. Love this flash. It needs to be attached directly on the camera and not a shoe mount. It has to read the camera in order to use the flash. I gave it 4 stars because it uses AAA batteries. The batteries doesn’t last long in it. I made the mistake of turning the flash on for the duration of filming a makeup tutorial (over 5 hours) and the batteries died and had to change them out AFTER, I had just changed them days before. I hate it and wish it could be charged with maybe a cable.

I really enjoy the simplicity of this little light. It's compact but definitely provided enough light for a front facing light. This light pairs well with compact comeras of any type. The only thing is, you need to manually adjust the intensity, but this is as easy as turning the dial on top.I would recommend this light to anybody needing a quick on camera flash!

Compact flash that is perfect for on camera direct flash that is trendy at the moment. Paired this with my Canon R100 and I have a compact(ish) kit that outperforms the G7X at a fraction of the cost. Powers up and recharges quickly, especially with quality rechargeable AAA batteries. Love that the flash uses universal center hotshoe pin and is fully manual. Trying on my film cameras next.

Godox iM30 May be tiny but it definitely packs a punch. It’s compact and easily fits into the palm of my hand. What’s great is you can easily store it in your camera bag. Bring it out when you just need more light. It’s fully manual and has 7 levels of adjustment. Runs on 2 AAA batteries. It is only a manual flash, no ttl. It works with all major brands of cameras. I use mine with my Canon and it’s spot on every single time. If you want something that you can quickly go to and rely on, you can’t beat this for the price. Less than $50

Pros:- Decent build quality- Compact and cute design- Full power on iM30 is about equivalent to ⅛ on Nikon SB-28dx- Manual power control dial in half-stop increment- Uses 2 AAA batteries- Accurate manual power markings- Ideal for hair light and fill flash- Sensitive optical trigger works well in S1 and S2 modesCons:- Recycling time of about 5 seconds with 1.2V NiMH batteries- Fully manual, no auto exposure capability- Not suitable for run-and-gun shoots- Requires trial and error for correct exposure unless using a flash meterThe Godox iM30 Compact Camera Flash with 7 manual power levels and S1/S2 Optical Trigger has a decent build quality. It is small and cute. I really love the manual power control dial which allows me to set the flash power easily. Most small flashes don’t have this feature. It uses 2 AAA batteries which is better than non-replaceable Li-ion batteries. I like it.I have compared the power of a Nikon SB-28dx at 50mm with this flash. The minimum 1/64 power on the SB-28dx is about the same as ⅛-¼ on the iM30. Full power on iM30 is about equivalent to ⅛ on the SB-28dx. I have also tested the accuracy of the manual power markings with a flash meter and they are accurate. The recycling time at full power is about 5 seconds using 1.2V NiMH AAA rechargeable batteries. I think it will recycle faster on 1.5V alkaline batteries. This tiny flash is ideal for hair light placed directly behind the head for half-length or headshots. When used with a slim light stand, it would hide itself very well behind the head which makes the hair light easy to set up. At the same time, the closely placed hair light does not use a lot of power around 1/8 so there is little need to change the battery during the shoot. The iM30 can also be used as a fill flash in a pinch but a lot of trial and error is required to get the correct exposure especially shooting at a variable distance without a flash meter. The optical trigger works very well in both S1 and S2 modes. The flash under review is fully manual and does not have any auto-exposure capability. It is best used in a studio environment and is not suitable for run-and-gun shoots. Therefore this flash is more for experienced shooters and not for beginners. For how cute this manual flash is, I have got to own it! It comes in handy when shooting a portable studio setup.

I recently picked up this compact camera flash, and I couldn’t be happier with its size and performance! Despite its small dimensions, it packs an impressive punch. The flash provides consistent and even lighting, making it perfect for both indoor and outdoor photography. What I love most is how portable it is. It’s lightweight and easy to carry around, which makes it ideal for travel or carrying in your pocket on the go. The setup is super simple - just attach it to the camera, and you’re ready to shoot. If you’re looking for an affordable, reliable, and versatile flash to add to your camera gear, this is a fantastic choice. It’s small but mighty, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for its power and portability!

Here’s a polished version of your review:As a professional wedding photographer, I know the importance of having a pop of flash in certain situations. However, my Canon R5 lacks a built-in pop-up flash, so I’ve always had to carry a bulky speedlight just in case I needed extra light. While effective, it’s not always practical when I want to travel light and just take my camera out for casual use.Since I’ve been a longtime user of Godox speedlights, I decided to try the Godox iM30, and I have to say, I’m pleasantly surprised by its performance.I took this portable flash with me to Thanksgiving, where my family inevitably asked me to take some photos. It worked beautifully! While I wouldn’t expect it to replace a full-size speedlight, it’s a remarkably powerful little flash that provides excellent fill light. One of my favorite features is how compact it is—I can toss it into my pocket or a small camera bag without adding significant weight.Another great feature is that it takes regular batteries, which makes it super convenient if I need replacements on the go. While it uses AAA batteries instead of AA, I think this choice contributes to its compact size, so it’s a trade-off I’m happy to make.In terms of build quality, the iM30 feels solid and well-constructed—exactly what I’d expect from a Godox product. Even at its affordable price point, it has impressive durability. It also features a sync cord port and an optical trigger, which opens up some fun possibilities. Although I currently own just one unit, it’s exciting to think about experimenting with multiple flashes using the optical slave feature. The flash is fully manual and universal, meaning it works with any camera that has a hot shoe with a center pin. I tested it on a few of my other cameras with pop-up flashes, and the iM30 outperformed them both in power and in producing a more evenly spread light.Overall, this is a fantastic addition to my smaller camera bag. It’s not a replacement for a full-size speedlight, but it’s an excellent compact solution for casual shooting or situations where you need just a bit of extra light. Highly recommended!
