The Godox MS300V is a 300W monolight studio strobe / flash that is rated with a Guide Number of 58 (at ISO100 and reflector use) which makes it a very usable studio strobe for a start with studio lighting. The compact form-factor is a signature feature of that particular Godox strobe product line and I would say small and lightweight is always appreciated by photographers.A reflector is not included in the package. Also, the marketing image with the gloves and colored mini diffuser is not accurate, they are not included. There's one other marketing image which shows the package content: strobe, AC cable, protector cap.It has a built-in remote wireless system that works with the X-series of remote triggers like the XPRO or X2, or XT16 system or via adapter with the older FT16. Even 3rd party products can be connected through a 3.5 mil connector. I tested X2T and XPRO II with no problems -- basically they connected right out of the box (if channel and group are correct). The AC cable has no clumsy power adapter, the AC cable can be connected directly to the strobe which is very convenient. In general, this light can work with 120V or in 240V environments, however you need to make sure the correct fuse is used. The fuse compartment is above the AC connector -- check that out before traveling.I measured the power cord which is pretty long: about 15 ft.The modeling light in this new version is now a COB LED light (10W) that generates slightly whiter, flatter light than in the previous bulb version, but I appreciate that the bulb is gone. Being a continuous light, it could be used as a supplemental light for other sorts of photography or video, let's say as a 3rd / 4th light or for dim light video scenes. In general, the modeling light is no substitute for a video light. It is just 10W, that has to be kept in mind but in my opinion the color reproduction is quite accurate with this new LED version.S1/S2 mode is available and helpful if you do not have the remote trigger and want to trigger via other flashes. The infrared sensor sits on the rear top of the strobe. The recovery cycle is 0.1 with the lowest power output and at full power just 1.8 sec.The umbrella holder seems updated, it has a retention mechanism inside and overall, an umbrella can be mounted stable. The retention mechanism was a little bit stiff in the beginning, it was tough to get the umbrella stem through it -- it worked and got a little bit more flexible after a few times but still needed some effort to get it through. I tested regular umbrellas, either with round or hexagon stem.I also mounted an umbrella-style octagon soft box which usually is used for speedlights.Any Bowens mount light modifier can be mounted to the front of the strobe -- that is for your common Bowens-mount soft box or just a reflector. This strobe is a solid built product and delivers results-- I think in this performance category and price level it is in the top field of strobes available today considering that it is positioned as an entry -level strobe.

This is a fantastic mono light. It’s extremely powerful and portable. You don’t have to worry about the power supply box and a ton of cables. Just plug it in and you’re good to go and it works with the Godox wireless trigger. The build quality is very good and unlike the older lights that have the bulb protruding from the circular strobe this uses a COB led light for the modeling. The modeling light is pretty powerful so it does its job well. I’ve broken a few of those bulbs since they stick out so much So I definitely appreciate how this design is less accident prone.Butthe light unit is still relatively large of course because it contains the power supply. So unlike traditional mono lights that was all plugged into a transformer, this guy is pretty big. The on board controls are very straightforward and easy to use however you’re going to be more likely controlling this from a trigger. And the Godox trigger allows access to all of the lights functions and adjustments. The body of the light excellent fit and finish . The mount includes an umbrella holder is very sturdy and the long lever gives you plenty of leverage to tighten down the tilt adjust. I’m normally used to metal mounting for expensive lights but it definitely feels sturdy and the use of the inserts helps alleviate any reservations I might have. The light is 300 W and it gives a guide number but not a distance so it’s pretty meaningless. This is really a first class monolite and the only reason I took off a star was because of the inexcusable lack of any way to protect and carry this. I was willing to buy a case but they don’t even sell one for the individual lamps. And the awkward shape has made it difficult to find anything that would suffice. I would gladly pay more for the light if they had included a decent carrying case.

I wanted to find a powerful strobe for my home studio. I found it! I’m not a professional but have taken a small interested the product photography. This strobe had the power for me to run my camera at 50 ISO with Full power. I didn’t have any issues other than the lack of accessories included.
