Assembly Instructions

  • 1.) With the lid open fully, use a razor blade, or similar sharp tool to peel back the carpet around the four corners, which exposes (4) phillips head screws.
  • 2.) Use a phillips head screwdriver to loosen all of the screw, and remove the plastic plate from the lid.
  • 3.) Slide the new latch hook down through the hole in the plastic plate, with the hook "point" facing downward (with the lid in the fully open position).
  • 4.) The latch should fit pretty snug, this helps keep it from jiggling. If too tight, file away the corners of the latch slightly until it fits in with a little force.
  • 5.) Re-install the plastic plate, and tighten the (4) screws, but BE CAREFUL, the plastic will easily strip, so do not over tighten!
  • 6.) Push down the carped firmly, the glue that Ford used should still be sticky.

Nice simple fix for the terrible plastic latch in the ranger center console. 4 starts because it’s sharp and will cut you if you are not careful when searching in the center console

Instead of another plastic pice to break this is made of aluminum which is definitely a upgrade. I am impressed... To install I had ro peel back the glued on fuzzy paying to reveal the 4 screws, then cut and file off the broke plastic catch this item is replacing, it just fits in to the square hole no apparent way to anchor the item aside from putting the lid back together. it has a little movement and worries about the plastic breaking but the aluminum part sure will not be the next failure point.

Follow the included instructions and drops right in. Will last much longer than the plastic piece it replaces.

This is a perfect solution to the broken latches that inevitably happen after time. I would say that it would be a little better if it were about 3/16 of an inch shorter, but not bad enough to dock a star.

It doesn't fit my 96 Ranger without almost destroying the console lid. In addition, the square hole intended to receive this part isn't large enough. Enlarging the hole will cause the remaining plastic to fail quickly. The item needs to flex in order to function properly. Aluminum doesnt flex like plastic. This was a waste of money for a 96 ranger at least my ranger. Other years may be different.
