I like a lot of things about this dress. Let me start with that. The color is beautiful, exactly what I expected from the listing photos. It is well made, in the sense that I found no faults in its construction. Nothing about the dress is sloppy or uneven, and the stitching is neat with no mistakes in the sewing and no long, dangling threads. I washed it in the washing machine using the delicate cycle, and then hung it up to dry, and had no problems with the dye running, the garment shrinking, or the seams or hem dissolving. The fabric--mostly polyester with a bit of elastane--is fine. It's not sheer, stiff, bulky, or clingy, though it does have a light stretchiness to it, which helps the fit. It seems like an objectively nice dress, and I generally like it. If you have a slim or athletic figure, it could be a good choice for you. As much as I admired the dress, however, one factor brings it down for me.If you looked closely at the listing photos, you may have noticed that the design includes a diagonal seam going from the waist, down across the belly, and over to the opposite hip. On the model, who has a lovely figure, it's not a problem, but it was extremely unflattering on me. The seam has no necessary function. It's purely there for decorative purposes, but I found it to be the opposite, as the line travels right across the fullest part of my belly, and the seam even causes it to stand forward a bit from the surface of my skin. The result is to draw attention to a problem area and even to exaggerate it, making it look worse than it is. Obviously, the very last thing I want my clothes to do. I'm working to return to a healthier weight, so I hope to be able to wear this beautiful dress in the future, but the reality is that I would never choose to wear it now, exclusively because of that design choice. They could so easily have cut the front of the skirt as one piece, but they decided to make it two, and then sew them together, and this is a choice which will not necessarily be kind to plus-sized women, those with post partum bellies, or anyone who's self-conscious about the appearance of this part of their body.The deeply unflattering seam makes it unusable to me at my current size, so I guess from that point of view, it's a one, although I hope to be able to enjoy it in the future. I really don't appreciate that design choice. On the other hand, with respect to the physical quality of the item, this is clearly a five-star product, so splitting the difference between that and my subjective experience of the dress, I guess I'll go with three stars.It is a nice dress, but before you order, pause to consider whether it will be complimentary to your figure. If you have no concerns about that, I believe you will like the dress.
