I am putting in a backyard putting green and used this to help me determine how much slope I have before starting. I used the rod and a laser level on a tripod to help determine the amount of slope and how much fill I needed. While I didn't need the full length of the rod, it is nice to have to measure vertical distances accurately. I will need to repaint my home in a few years and this will help me find the area I need to cover. I am impressed with the build quality as the rod is easy to adjust but very solid. The level helps insure the rod is vertically straight.

This 16-foot product is lightweight and fairly simple to manipulate for its size. I could only imagine difficulties if using it outdoors in strong winds. Each extension only locks in place when it is fully extended. If the extension is only partially extended, it will stay in place unless bumped, but it will not give the correct measurement on the scale. The 16-footer has four additional lengths that will extend beyond the fully contracted size.The included case is made of fabric which helps keep the rod clean, but the case would not protect the product from abuse. The included bubble level is difficult to push through the intended slots on the rod. The plastic in the slots will need to be filed wider.

I requested this survey rod to measure beach slopes. It is relatively lightweight and compact for being a 16-foot (4.9-m) telescoping rod. I like the fact that the rod has dual graduations – decimal feet and feet & inches. The graduations are clear and can easily be seen through a scope or even a telephoto lens on a smartphone. The rod comes with a bubble level which leads me to one of my complaints. You cannot keep the bubble level on the rod and fit it in the case safely and there is no external pocket to store the bubble level. I had to purchase a small keychain ring case to clip the bubble level to the shoulder strap of the case. Also, the case is a little flimsy, still it does work.PROS• This is a compact, relatively lightweight 16-foot telescoping survey rod.• The rod has dual graduations in decimal feet and feet & inches.• Clear, very legible graduations.• An included bubble level ensures the rod is vertical.CONS• The is no external pocket on the rod case to hold the bubble level.• The rod case works but it is a little flimsy.

I was initially hesitant to purchase this rod, but given the price, I decided to give it a chance. I must say, it exceeded my expectations. It seems well-made, the markings are clear, and it’s also easy to store.
