For now i can only put a 1 star!I received this product and proceeded to use it, i know it takes some practice! But i washed it and let it dry, it is now full of rust!I haven’t been able to season it as it is full of rust?! Unbelievable!!!! For a $240 item, this is unacceptable.

Cooking with cast iron is like film photography: you kinda need to know how to cook, instead of just heating things up. With that in mind this waffle iron is spectacular. Right out of the box it is more non-stick than teflon coated waffle makers I've used. I did use a digital infrared thermometer and heated it up to over 400 degrees and I did spray it with WM canola oil spray every waffle. But the results were perfect! Nice crunchy Belgian waffles. Flipping it requires some practice but it's not hard.It is a bit on the heavy side, like cast iron should be. And if you have a nice stiff dish brush, hot water is all you need for clean up. When you're done, a little spray of canola oil, then a short heat up on the stove, and a wipe down and you're good to go. It's not cheap, but it's a lifetime+ investment. You will never need to buy another waffle maker again, it's a blast to use, and in 60 years you can pass it down to your grandchildren, (your kids can buy their own...)Unplug, get off the computer and do something real, give up the virtual for a while and usurp your computer overlords.

This was my first time cooking on a cast iron pan in a while, and first time making waffles. They turned out beautifully, and my toddler couldn’t be happier. Quality product that I look forward to using for years to come. Even worked well on my old coil electric stove. ( I had to adjust the heat up a bit accordingly, but I had no issues.) it’s worth the money knowing I’m not cooking with PFAF’s and other harmful chemicals. I simply applied butter to both sides, and it did the trick just fine. If you have a toddler that asks for waffles on a regular basis, I highly recommend. Just read the directions and be sure you understand how to cook with and care for cast iron.

Thank you Appalachian for making this traditional waffle iron! I made the best waffles I have ever tasted using your Belgian waffle iron and a Sourdough waffle recipe (using a fully active starter rather than discard) from Wild Yeast Blog on the internet.I must have tasted real, traditional waffles in my early childhood because I had the strongest sense of nostalgia that took me back to when I was a small child as soon as I took my first bite.Crispy, light, airy, just the right amount of sweetness and they held the maple syrup beautifully, didnt become soggy. I can imagine making these in so many variations, different flavour profiles, savoury and sweet.I cleaned and reseasoned the waffle iron on arrival (not necessary but like to with cast iron) and then brushed a small amount of oil on before each waffle. No problems with sticking. I flipped the iron so that the waffle was attached to the side that lifts up and used gravity to help release the waffle onto a plate using a spatula to release the edge.I am so happy that I finally bought this waffle iron, I will use it often and it will outlast me, I would be proud to hand this on to my son.

I purchased this waffle maker for my husband for Christmas. He seasoned it as recommended by the manufacturer. He mixed up his batter and it stuck to the waffle iron terribly. He then re-seasoned it and tried it again using the same batter recipe. It stuck again horrifically. I reviewed the recipe he was using for his waffle mix and realized he did not have enough protein and oil. He added an additional egg for a total of two eggs and another quarter cup of oil. His next waffle cooked exactly like as demonstrated in the videos and did not stick at all. The lesson we learned is that whatever batter you use, has to have enough protein and oil in order for it not to stick. They were the best tasting waffles I have ever had not only for the taste of the batter, but the crispiness on the outside of the waffle and tenderness on the inside. My husband loves his Christmas gift.

It’s a labour of love, which I’m falling out of love with it quickly!1) it’s so heavy it scratches the induction top.2) the ball flipping system doesn’t work because the waffles expand as cooking.3) the handles are so so terribly designed, they are too small and get too hot. The springs round the handle move too much so it’s all in all a bit pain.Personally the deep waffles are better, like the Belgian styles. These arnt deep.Great idea but needs to be re-engineered and more user friendly

This beautiful waffle maker is of the highest quality. We have followed the maker’s instructions exactly and have had absolutely no difficulty with sticking batter. It’s easy to peek inside and see if your waffle is ready. Definitely get it very hot before you start making waffles. I heat the waffle iron for about ten minutes or more while I finish getting my batter ready. I use a sourdough pancake/waffle recipe from King Arthur Flour but the possibilities are endless! I use melted ghee and a natural bristle pastry brush to grease the iron, about every second waffle, but grease every time until you feel confident. I find that if I use a heaped half cup of batter it makes a thick waffle, perfectly shaped. If you under do the batter they are slightly funny shaped but it doesn’t matter. I’ve decided not to wash it unless I have to, so I just close it when I have finished cooking, and wipe the outside of it with a cotton cloth. Truly worth every penny. We are so glad we purchased this waffle maker. It is now part of our family! I would consider buying another one so that children don’t have to wait for their next waffle.
