Very dull when arrived, but well protected. Had to sharpen, and after that works well. The size is adequate, which equates to easy to hold and grip.

The Greendale Set of 2 Hatchets/Axes is a decent option for light camping and wood-splitting tasks. The fiberglass handle with shock-absorbing rubber grip is comfortable and reduces strain during use. The forged steel head feels durable, and the included sharpening stone and blade sheathes are nice touches. However, while these hatchets work fine for light splitting, they’re not ideal for heavy chopping. The heads lack the heft needed for more demanding tasks, and I found them less effective on thicker logs. Overall, they’re great for smaller jobs, but if you need something for more intense chopping, these might not be the right choice.

These hatchets are relatively comfortable to hold and use, decently balanced. The heads are attached to the handles by epoxy, so we'll have to see how secure they stay over time.The metal of the head is not particularly hard and the provided edge passable but not overly sharp, but the hatchets should be sufficient for light-duty use around the campsite or clearing brush, cutting firewood, or the like. Then again, one shouldn't expect a top quality tool in this price range.Overall, reasonable quality, light- to medium-duty hatchets.

these are really high quality axes that come out of the package quite sharp already. these are a great value if you would like to place a couple axes around your shop or around your house for convenience. they are balanced quite well in the hand and I haven't had any issues with awkward usage. they cut through wood quite easily and I haven't encountered anything I haven't been able to chop through so far. they don't weigh a whole lot which is especially useful but it is still heavy at the top where you want it to be.

These are excellent hand-axes (what I generally call "hatchets"). They are heavy but have a comfortable grip and strong fiberglass handles. They come very sharp, so take care. If you dull them, they also come with a small sharpening stone, although my powered sharpeners are much less tedious. In either case, the steel holds its edge well, and the sharpener included is adequate for touching up the edge. It's especially convenient if you need to sharpen while camping or out in the woods, so it's a nice touch that they include it.These are not long-handled axes. Instead, they are hand-axes ... designed to be used with one hand. However, those tools are good for appropriate applications and are sufficient for chopping most wood. The flat end doubles as a hammer to pound in tent stakes or other hammer uses.For the price, considering that you are getting a pair rather than a single axe, these are a great bargain. They are strong and will likely last long if cared for properly.I wish they had a sheath that covered the whole head, but I think that was not in the cards at this price point. Instead, the edge is covered with a flexible plastic cover. Be careful removing it, as the edge, out of the box, is very sharp. The easiest way to remove it is to grab it at one end and stretch it. Then gently remove it from the axe. Putting it back on is a chore as well. I think I'll try to find a generic sheath somewhere to fit this.Overall, though, they are good quality tools if you are out in the woods or have such a need around your property.
