Works ridiculously well!! The only reason Im giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because on certain guitars the nut has to be off of the guitar to get the file to work right

It would probably be ok if no strings are involved but the wingnut whacks the headstock and get caught up in the other strings.

I don't actually put the various size files on that contraption, I just use my two hands and it works a lot better. The set would wear out quickly if used to cut new nuts but if you're simply adjusting the height of a bridge or nut, it should do fine. I've used it on five guitars that that didn't need extensive adjustment and so far the kit is working just fine.

Don't buy this the files are hard to install and the wing nuts get in the way

This thing is a mess. For one, all of the files are just tied into a bundle with no way to tell what size file is what. Second the handle that you are expected to use with these files is clunky and awkward to use. My advice would be to skip this nut file set and buy something better.

I don't have to file the slots in a nut that often. Recently, my main guitar fell over and the original nut was damaged so I had to find a replacement. While the new nut was close, the final fitting required me to tweak the depth of the outer slots to match the curve of the neck better. It worked really well.In the past I've used torch tip cleaners. They work, but they really aren't meant for precision work, and not really meant to be used on musical instruments at all. This is where the nut slotting file really makes the difference. Now that the tool holds the cutting wire firmly at both ends, I can use both my hands to guide the cutting wire over the nut and really dial in the depth of the nut slots. Also, there's a nice little pouch to hold all the little bits together for the next time that they are needed.I wish I had this years ago. Highly recommended!

There have been times on the road when temperature or humidity have changed the way one of my guitars behaves. I carry a small set of guitar tools with me to make minor adjustments as needed.Sometimes I need to make adjustments to the neck, and once in a while, I have to modify the nut. This kit makes that an easy job to perform on the road when I need to make a slight change to the string height at the nut. This is usually because I had to change strings in a hurry and the gauge of the new strings is slightly different from the originals. Now normally, I would take the guitar to my luthier and have them make the adjustment, but when out on the road for an extended time, that is not an option. This kit allows me to put the appropriate sized diamond coated wire into the fixture, and make minor string depth adjustments to the nut with a reasonable level of confidence that I won't mess anything up.I believe this is a great addition to the tool kit of any performing guitarist.

Used it on a Tusq nut. Low E was easy using the handle. But, that's about it for using the handle. G, A and D also needed to be done. They were very easily done without it. Just using the wire, it worked fine. The handle is probably meant for a Nut that is NOT on your guitar. On the guitar was better for me. I did a little at a time, putting the string back in place, tuning and checking until it was good. Didn't take long. The wire cut fast. I was slow and careful, not to much and no scratches. Worked easily enough and now the guitar is GOOD. An F Maj chord, at the 1st fret is Finally in tune.
