The color and texture of the guitar string cleaner is not thick and not a nice green color. It is think and looks used with the discoloration of the cleaning felt

Amazing how filthy your strings get .. and the fretboard too. Gotta keep them cleaned, and the fretboard oiled too. This thing allows you to do ALL of that, without re-stringing, and it takes just a few minutes. It has a base it sits in for storage, protecting the fretboard pad, and the string pads clamp together. It is a great design - in theory - the problem, it doesn't work very well. The padding tears off and sticks along the frets, and you cannot get in tight along the edges of the frets. Additionally, you can only put pressure on the top and bottom of the strings, not along the edges. So, for now I keep using a thin rag, until time for a proper re-stringing. Great idea though - almost there.

This fretboard cleaner is pretty handy—it comes with two microfiber pads in a compact, protective case. The fiber quality is solid and does a nice job on both strings and fretboard polish. I’m a bit cautious about applying polish directly, as I’m unsure how easy it’ll be to clean afterward, but for routine maintenance, these should last through a couple of runs. For the price, it’s a cool, practical tool to have in your guitar repair/maintenance inventory.

Dirty guitar strings are easy to clean with this simple device. The open trapdoor-like unit is slid under the strings away from the fretboard and snapped together so that the two microfiber surfaces face each other. There is a third microfiber surface on the underside of the unit, and this serves to both clean and protect the fretboard. It's best to loosen the strings a bit before using this device. Three or four passes across the full length of the strings should do the job. You could use some sort of cleaning fluid, but it's not really necessary, especially if you don't wait until the strings are filthy before cleaning them. The String Cleaner works with most stringed instruments, though round-wound bass strings will probably wear this thing out quickly. My main concern here is the longevity of the glued-on microfiber material, as tiny bits of it came loose the very first time I used the String Cleaner. You do get two devices for well under ten dollars, which I guess is not much to ask if you get enough use from them...as to that, time will tell.
