I like this product because the students can blend sounds in a tangible way. The letters are also correct. I used to teach reading to children with learning disabilities.

My 5 year old is working so hard on letter sounds and tapping out words. Reading Rods provides the perfect visual for us to see, speak, and connect letters. I’m so excited to watch her learning progress.

The Learning Resources Reading Rods Alphabet and CVC Words set is an exceptional educational tool designed to support children in their journey to learn how to read. With its innovative approach to teaching phonics, word building, and spelling, this set provides a hands-on and engaging learning experience for kids. One of the standout features of this set is the inclusion of color-coded letter blocks. Each block represents a specific letter of the alphabet, and the color-coding system helps children easily identify and differentiate between letters. This feature aids in reinforcing letter recognition and phonemic awareness, which are crucial foundations for reading and spelling. The Reading Rods Alphabet and CVC Words set aligns with the science of reading, which emphasizes the importance of phonics instruction and phonemic awareness in developing strong reading skills. By incorporating manipulatives and hands-on activities, this set engages multiple senses and learning styles, making it suitable for children with diverse learning needs.

My little boys found these really useful and actually enjoyed playing with them when they first started learning to read, they really helped them with their phonics, sounding out words, spelling out words using the letters. They are a great idea and I imagine they would be a great resource to use for things like school classes, preschool etc

When you open up the box, it separates out the letters into consonants and vowels. Red for vowels and blue for consonants. There are large black dots which represent sound buttons. ie a button represents a single sound when spelt out. These can be used by children or by a group with a teacher. These could be used with laminated cards for children to create the small words.Used by the teacher for whole class teaching ie children tell me how to make the work s-a-t and then teacher makes the word, children then repeat the sounding out and the whole word etc.(I didn't read the booklet, that might be in there). Being an ex teacher, I sort of get how you could use these!Tha's not to say that the booklet is not a handy guide. Might be ideal to give to parent helpers and suggest which activity they do with the children. On the whole, I think this is quite a worth while resource. £17.00, I think I would want several in my classroom so a table of children could use it at once.

These are a set of interconnecting blocks with individual letters printed on them which you can use to build words. There are two of each letter, showing both the upper and lower case on different on different faces of the blocks. The dividers it mentions are just a folded cardboard insert in the box with a single divider to separate vowels from consonants. The set is aimed at children at the start of their reading journey to help them with letter recognition and building simple, 3 letter words with a basic consonant-vowel-consonant structure. To assist with this, vowels are coloured red. There are also a couple of "blank" blocks in each colour for children starting to gain confidence with these sorts of words so that you can get them to figure out which letter might replace the blank to create a real word. There is also a little leaflet with suggested games and activities that you might play and QR code links to worksheets that you can download and print. As your child's reading skills improve, there are various other sets which you can buy which build on the same principle of interconnecting blocks with more groupings of letters and complete words. The downside is that following this system could get expensive with extra sets to buy.

For anyone familiar with "Learning Resources" products, it really shouldn't be any surprise to find out that all you will be doing here is paying over the odds for a box full of interconnecting small plastic cubes with individual letters printed on them. On one hand, there is a certain element of educational value here, but on the other hand, you could achieve the same amount of educational value, alongside much better value for money, by simply looking elsewhere on Amazon.
