This item has two functions. Grab hot items. Puncture fuel cylinders so they can be recycled.I ordered it for the first function; to grab hot items when I am camping. I already having a good cylinder puncturing device so that feature was not of interest to me.I have avoided the pot grippers I have seen in the stores because they had various features that gave me concern. Among my concerns has been the tool leaving scratch marks on the items picked up. The fact this was claimed on the web description as having silicone on the contact points suggested to me that would prevent the scratching problem. It looked good in the photos. The product description on the card to which this was attached says the tiny tips are rubber. Silicon is more heat resistant than rubber. Strike one. The location of the contact points are not where there is gripping strength like picking something up between two fingers. All kinds of pliers have the jaws so force against one jaw is countering the force against the other jaw. These contact points are situated two are rather close to each other on one side and the other contact points are further spread out on the other side. The forces are not against each other. The result is a twisting force. I tried to pick up a steel can (was a beans can) almost filled with water. Sure enough, when there was sufficient pressure to assure it would not be dropped the can edge bent from the twisting force. The bends in the metal side are close but not symmetrical. The holes for the axel the jaws pivot on is a bit off but it is a loose sloppy fit. The rubber tips are tiny and fit into a slotted hole instead of a round hole which will in time cause wear on the tiny tip. So close to being good but too far for me to keep it.The can puncturing feature requires a removable cotter pin to be pulled out and it and the axil need to be set aside when the puncturing occurs. Afterward the tool must be reassembled. The one I have has no such time wasting to use it. The puncturing point is at a location it can be a hazard to the hand.I am returning this tool. However, I can imagine many buyers may be perfectly happy with it especially if their pots are of thicker material than mine or if they would be happy to have the cylinder puncturing feature on the tool.
