These reagents follow the Colorimetric Method in which the reaction causes a distinctive range of colors from yellow to green to blue to develop. By simply adding the solution of HI755-26 to the sample, the reaction will take place and the Marine Alkalinity Checkers will determine the concentration from the color that is produced. The results will be displayed in ppm of CaCO3 . These reagents are designed to be used with samples that have an expected range of 0 to 300 ppm CaCO3 .

I can't stand the calcium tester I got from Hannah instruments, but this alkalinity tester is spot on. While it is very easy to use, you don't get necessarily more accurate results and you still have to go through about the same amount of time you would with another test kit, say Red Sea.

Been using this product for years. Except for some batches that Hanna recalled, I've gotten good results from my Hanna alkalinity checker and these reagents. It's nice to get a replacement syringe, though I'd rather get a new cuvette, too, with the shipment.

Only gave 4 stars because this is the second bottle that leaks when it is laid down in the Hanna case

Hanna checker is all I use for testing my alk. Great product, but now it is no longer available for prime shipment. Won't be buying this from Amazon I guess.

I really like all of the Hanna instruments that I have, and this is an economical solution to keep on testing my aquarium parameters. Double check the recall on the kit you receive, my latest batch was involved in the recall so I am awaiting a new batch directly from Hanna. So you may not want to wait until you completely run out of solution before you order, Hanna is set to deliver new batch in 2-4 weeks.

Had to return items, the reagents were defective. After immediately opening I noticed the color of the reagent was much lighter in color than any reagents I had previously used. Since the checker is a colorimeter this would have a obvious effect on the results. The readings were extremely low, like 3.68 dKH, I keep my tanks right around 9.5; I tested with 2 other test kits, Red Sea and Salifert. Both the other test kits had my dKH at 9.1 and 9.2 respectively.

This is much easier to use than API alkalinity testing kit. More expensive than the API kit (when you also purchase the Hanna Handheld Colorimeter), but easier and more accurate. And my time and lack of patience come into play when I have to test my saltwater tank alkalinity daily. For me, Hanna Instruments Alkalinity Checker is the only way to go.
