This is a well built basic and stylish hand-cranked coffee maker. You adjust how fine you want the grind by adjusting a nut to tighten or loosen the burr mechanism in the crank. You sort of have to learn by intuition, feel, and experimentation on this since there are no preset gradations, just arbitrary tightening or loosening the adjustment nut.I'd read other reviews that said it's a workout and was skeptical but it does indeed a bit of elbow grease! It's not difficult or strenuous, it just takes time. I'm very fit and athletic and it takes me three minutes of cranking to grind the beans needed to brew a 20oz cup of coffee. That amount of beans fills the hopper....if I brew more than that I need to grind and refill. One nice feature is that the jar into which the grounds go is totally sealable. The grinding mechanism is the hinged to the jar and snaps shut with a rubber seal. They thoughtfully provide a cork stopper to plug the opening under the grinding mechanism, which also acts as the lid, so your grounds are well-sealed. Just don't forget to uncork it to use it!I do enjoy the connection and organic feeling of grinding my own coffee and learning my preferred grind. I sometimes think it WOULD be nice to just measure beans into a machine and push a button and be done, but I'm happy with this little inexpensive machine that does a great job for my small batches of coffee. If you are regularly brewing a full pot of coffee, I'd recommend an electronic grinder.

Loved this grinder. It’s made almost all of steel, wood, glass. Nice not holding plastic grinding. Lasted 5 years grinding every morning. Would buy again.

Wanted a minimalistic coffee mill made of glass and steel, with ceramic burrs and a classic look and feel.Hario was an obvious choice and it worked great for about 6 months of almost daily use.Unfortunately it seems this mill was not really for daily use.I was worried that ceramic burrs might not last long, but that wasn’t the issue. The issue was the handle, which became round at the joint and loose when grinding. The one star is because the replacement handle is not even listed in Hario’s website for this model.

This is a bit big and cumbersome to use. It's cute, and I'll still use it, but it's not very ergonomic or lightweight.

Like:- Sealable bottom container to store ground coffee is a nice idea.- Looks nice (if you like this sort of look).Dislike:- Cork (supplied) is necessary to seal the storage container. But cork doesn't stay in well because it's trying to seal against a varnished wood surface that isn't uniformly circular, and that wood surface will be coated with oil from coffee grounds, which makes it impossible for cork to fit securely and hold in place. Unreliable to start with, and will only get worse (much worse) over time, obviously. Bad design.- Easy to forget cork is in, and just start grinding beans, which pushes the cork into the coffee grounds, and then the cork gets buried in the grounds, and soaks up coffee bean oil, further reducing its ability to hold in the grinder opening.- Shape and size make this thing REALLY awkward to hold while grinding, and rubber bottom makes it prone to tip over while grinding, unless you put a *lot* of downward pressure on the container to hold it to a table-- which is hard to do because the grinder arm swings pretty wide. Bad design.- Bean hopper is too small -- have to fill the hopper two or three times to grind enough coffee to fill the container.- Bean hopper doesn't SEAL. The little plastic sheath that is provided is hard to get on and off, and has a big hole in it to allow it to slide past the center axle of the grinder -- but that hole makes the top useless! If the grinder tips or wobbles during grinding (which is VERY likely, as I mentioned previously), beans spill out everywhere. Poor design.- Grinder is adjustable, but on the FINEST setting, it cannot grind beans fine enough for espresso -- do not buy this grinder if you are hoping to grind beans for a Bialetti Moka Espress! It will make very disappointing coffee, because the beans are not ground fine enough.- Top nut that holds the arm on the grinder axle consistently loosens during use, making the grinder arm wobble, and often just comes off completely, sending you on a treasure hunt to find the itty-bitty top nut. Should have a lock washer on it, or something. Stupid design. All in all, this thing cost WAY too much to have this many issues and limitations. If you are looking to grind coffee for a French Press or a pour-over, it might work, but only if you can tolerate the difficulty of use, and only if you don't intend to use the sealable storage container (which doesn't really seal well because of the cork issues). But really, if you are going to do that, you should probably just find a different grinder-- there are other less expensive grinders that can probably do that just as well, if not better.

I love this thing! It’s simple and easy to use and it’s cool to look at. I only make one cup of coffee (ok, sometimes two) per day so it’s easy enough to just fill up the hopper with beans and get to grindin’. If I had one complaint is that the nut holding the handle on can loosen while grinding, but honestly you just tighten it up and move on with your morning.

Hace el trabajo y lo hace bien, es de buena calidad y esta bonito. El unico detalle es que regular el grosor del molino es algo complicado, pero nada del otro mundo. Excelente relacion precio-calidad

This is more then I could hope for. It’s very good quality, heavy. Very well designed and so much fun to work with. I can say that I made my first cup of coffee today, and it was the best one I ever had. Real metal and wood. Disassembles easily for clean up purposes.

Well got this after having a bad time with a couple of electric burr grinders. I will review it on the following criteria:1. Build Quality & Looks :The build quality seems pretty good, everything looks sturdy and well made. The ceramic grinder is of high quality with all the high quality metal paraphernalia and the container with the cork stopper to keep your coffee fresh, is a brilliant addition. The mason jar holding the coffee is also made of good quality glass and is air tight. Talking about the looks, it is a neat addition to the coffee setup in my office, however, I wish, the base anti-slip rubber sleeve and the lid of the coffee grinder chamber were not that dirty brown. All in all - looks sturdy, durable and pretty eye-pleasing if you can get over the dirty brown.2. Ease of use and functionality:It is not a very quick and comfortable thing to use, but when you are buying a manual burr grinder, you know what you are getting. The instruction manual that comes with it, is not the most user friendly, very few instructions, but all that you will probably need is here, so this is just nit-picking. Regardless, the machine is very simple to take apart for cleaning and to put together. The grind setting is a little tricky though, it just doesn't sit on all settings, hence there is no margin for getting a grind between lets say 1-3 grind setting for example (imagine it - there is no grind setting on it). Hence the grind is either coarse or too coarse, "FINE" is not an option. It works well for French Press, filter and percolator, but don't even think of getting this for your Espresso machine, unless some beautiful soul comes with a DIY solution to achieve that. Grinding movement is not very fluid, as in it feels like your are struggling a little with the machine, sometimes it just wants to be a little unruly. The anti slip dirty brown rubber sleeve, doesn't really do it's job well and you have to put a decent amount of pressure on the grinder to keep it sitting - however that is more to do with the grinding not being smooth. Also - keeping it in the same grind setting is suggested, once you have found that setting after a lot of trial and error (and trust me it is extremely frustrating) it is easier to leave it, than lets say - adjusting it every time to get the perfect grind for different kind of coffee brewing processes. I now exclusively drink French Press.Value for Money - It is expensive for what it is, as it doesn't do it very well. It does it OK, but the cost is certainly not justifiable for the final product delivery - that is ground coffee, that is not very consistent.

I’m hoping the ceramic grinding mechanism will last considerably longer than the cheap metal version I had before. This is very well made, easy to use and simple to adjust. I did use a drop of thread lock on the nut that holds the handle in place to prevent it working loose. It takes about 100 turns to grind just the right amount for my breakfast coffee; this doesn’t bother me, but it may you. The bean reservoir cap has been modified on this version so no problems with it falling off, or beans spilling out as other people have reported.

Great grinder! Love the desing, it feels robust and durable. The coffee grinds to the exact measurement you want, being easy to adapt once you get the hang of it.6 years later and never needed to repair it, still going strong and working perfectly. Only bought an electric grinder as my wife wanted a faster option for the morning coffee.Buy it for life!!!

Great for manually grinding 1-2 cups of coffee every morning (about 6 tablespoons worth). I use to just get my beans ground at the coffee shop, but towards the end of the bag (1/3 remaining) the taste of the bean would begin to fade (due to oxidation processes). I go through a bag every 2-3 weeks, so being able to get the best taste out of the beans towards the last week has been amazing. Just keep in mind that this is a manual coffee grinder!
