I'm making some Foundation Paper Piecing blocks with extremely bulky multi-layered seams that I can't flatten well enough with my wooden clappers alone. Pressing with a clapper (along with the hot iron) is usually sufficient- I love my clappers and use them regularly for quilting and sewing- but I needed something more heavy duty for these blocks. So I decided to try this Wacker tool as it was highly recommended by some quilters. It really works! I sprayed the blocks with my water/starch, pressed with hot iron, hit the bulky center seam intersection with a couple whacks, and it definitely flattened out quite a lot. Then I pressed again with the iron, and let my heavy clapper sit on the block for a few minutes, which helped keep it extra flat. I'm impressed, very happy with this Wacker tool. I recommend investing in one to manage bulky seams. Also, if you want extra flattening, a clapper is helpful, too- they work nicely together.
