The shelf cannot be made tight enough to stay in place with any weight. The shelf will sag and then come loose. It’s a terrible design for a round pole.

The screw knob is difficult to turn, and if you tighten it hard enough to where it doesn't move... the screw drives through the plastic and dents the speaker stand. Good idea, BAD execution.

This is a heavy steel mounting shelf. The clamp is large enough to mount to larger pole DJ stands. I have mine attached to a 1.5" stand and its fits just fine. Its EXTREMELY sturdy. I'm about to get an additional one to hold another item.

Ordered this to replace a small table that I steal from the living room all the time to record certain types of videos LOL. That works but it would be more convenient to have everything in the studio space all the time to save set up time. And...it works for this. Very well, especially since all I really need to put on it is the remote for the teleprompter and my camera remote.I am using this on a high end, carbon fiber tripod which is light in weight but VERY sturdy in the legs. Even with that extra "insurance" I feel a little apprehensive about putting too much on this beyond what I am putting there now because it's HEAVY. That is actually a good thing because it's very sturdy and high quality - you WANT that, especially since this is basically just a tray and it's $30. But, it would benefit from being lighter as I do have a concern about it toppling over. So far it has NOT happened (thankfully) but I will update the review accordingly should something happen.Besides that issue that is not actually truly a flaw or issue, this is a great tray that is again, very sturdy, it's large so you can put a lot on it...it attaches to a tripod with ease and VERY securely with a nice, tight clamp, and it's just overall a super. SUPER useful part of my rig.So, with all of the above said...I would recommend it BUT I would definitely not put anything too heavy on it unless you have a very heavy tripod or you have the legs spread out widely to ensure stability.

This shelf is built like a tank and pretty heavy (Amazon shows the package weight as 4.9 lbs), but be aware of the 8 POUND capacity stated by the seller. It doesn't take much weight before the clamp wiggles on whatever it is clamped to and the shelf tilts.Don't get me wrong, this is a really cool shelf and very useful. In my photos I had it clamped to a pole in my enclosed party tent. I probably could have tightened it a little more and had slightly better results, but the shelf is simply overbuilt in relation to the clamp's capability. It seems like the threaded rod is simply moving in its threads and allowing the shelf to tilt. In theory, the bigger the pole the more stable it will be clamped, but it is shown mounted on stands much smaller than my tent poles. It's not like it falls apart or collapses if you put too much weight on it, but you will be warned when you do. It's also quite large for an 8 lbs weight limit. If it was smaller and/or built a little less heavily, it might actually hold more weight!Overall though, I really like this shelf and I will definitely be putting it to use. It's a handy place to set a drink or a phone or tools. I would just recommend giving some thought to the weight of what you plan to put on it!UPDATE: I got it as tight as I could by hand with no change. Looking at it more closely, it does seem to be the shaft of the clamp screw moving in the threads of the bracket. Threads normally have a little play in them, that's normal. But here it causes a problem. If you have somewhere you want to mount this at least semi-permanently, I'd recommend removing the screw and putting a nut and washer on both sides of the bracket to secure it. They are M8/1.25 threads. Tighten the clamp down to your pole/stand, then tighten the nuts down with a wrench from both sides against the bracket. It should definitely firm it up. The radiused plastic block on the end of the clamp screw can be removed with a Philips screw (which is nice, a lot of these are permanently attached on similar items), allowing the screw to come out. I haven't tried this yet, but if I find a spot I want to keep this shelf up, I plan to!
