Specification:
The AD9833 is a low power, programmable, sinusoidal waveform generator with triangular and square wave outputs. Generation is required in various types of waveform detection, implementation, and time domain reflectometry (TDR) applications. The output frequency and phase are programmable software that can be easily adjusted. No external components are necessary. The frequency register is 28 bits wide: the clock frequency is 25 MHz, which can achieve 0.1Hz resolution; the AD9833 clock frequency is 1 MHz, which can be tuned to a resolution of 0.004Hz.
The AD9833 has a standard serial interface that allows the device to be directly connected to different microprocessors. The device uses an external serial clock to write data or information to the control device.
The AD9833WBRMZ-REEL model can be controlled to meet the quality and reliability requirements of automotive applications. Please note that this model's car specifications may differ from commercial models; therefore, designers must carefully read specific sections of this data sheet. Only automotive grade indicator products are available for automotive applications. Please contact your local ADI representative account for ordering information for specific products and obtain specific vehicle reliability reports for these models.
The AD9833 is written through the serial interface line. The serial interface operates at clock frequencies up to 40 MHz and is standard compatible with DSP and microcontrollers. The device operates from a 2.3 V 5.5 V supply
The AD9833 has a power-down function (SLEEP). This turns off unused parts of the device, minimizing power consumption, for example, turning off the DAC when generating the output clock

I am pleased w/ this module. I'm building a numerically-controlled oscillator signal generator. I tested the module using modifications of the examples available w/in the AD9833.h (Rob Tillaart) AVR library. Once I got the hang of the library functions, I found it easy to select the desired frequency and waveform. An oscilloscope was used to confirm the resultant frequency and quality of waveform. As others have noted, the output sine or TRI wave amplitude decreased with increasing frequency, from 600mV (@ 30-500Hz) to 570mV (50kHz) to 460mV (200kHz, max tested). Current draw @ 5v VCC was 5.7mA: this is consistent w/ the datasheet.
