Nuts are a bit hard to thread without removing the guard but it's manageable and cheap enough to buy one for the plunge base and for the fixed base

Attaching the dust collector was simple using the included hardware. After combining this with the large shop vac and a slew of adapters to reduce the 2.5" vac hose down to fit this port it worked flawlessly.

Got the unit with hopes it would be a nice fitting adapter, turns out it doesn't even fit the M12VC in any shape or form, dropped it in the pretty black bin called "garbage". Too many make claims on universal or multiple fits, but this definitely didn't work for the M12VC but seems to for the M12SC.

Firstly, the unit itself is quite sturdy, with a clever-ish set of hardware for attaching. So that's the good. The bad :- The dust collector can't be used in conjunction with the Hitachi 323342 Straight Guide Assembly if the guide is set to it's shorter settings. A partial workaround is to have the dust collector exit the opposite side of the guide, but the amount of sawdust which exits the bottom of the router roughly quadruples if the vacuum connection is on the far side of the work.- The dust collector's attachment points protrude about 1/4" into the opening in the base plate, making an already small opening too small for many edge forming bits.- The dust collector will only connect to the smaller Hitachi baseplate, not the larger baseplate included with the plunge / fixed combo. In summary, I can't fault the durability or quality of the material used in the dust collector, but the design is shortsighted. With clever placement one can overcome most of the shortcomings, but doing so adds 10 minutes to set up between figuring out the best method to use and then (re-)attaching appropriately. If this happens to suit your setup and work style - especially if you'll be using a fence instead of the guide - the made-to-measure fitment to the router is quite nice, and suction is good. If you're looking to use the guide and dust collection simultaneously, or if you just can't be bothered with trying to out-clever it's limitations, a generic from another manufacturer would probably be a better bet.One additional note: At the time of writing (1/2021) I just picked up the plunge / fixed router combo on sale from Lowe's for less than double the cost of the Dust Collector and Straight Guide, which seems way out of line, considering the amount of equipment one gets in the combo.

I'm amazed how great this fits both Haiachi M12v bases. It works very well on both bases It's a lot easier to change router bits on the standard base, then it is on the plunge base with the dust collector attached. There is not a lot of room for changing bits, but after a little practise you'll get faster at it..I read a question somewhere? Can you use it on a table mounted router? Yes, you can! But you will need to buy longer mounting screws and leave the standard router base on. Changing bits is more difficult on router tables. Small bits, it's just easier to remove the motor in order to change bits - Honestly I do not use this table mounted. My 2 inch fence mounted dust port works much better on anything over fine dust.

I bought this for my older TR12 router. It fits it perfectly, although the opening is a bit small for some bits, it does a pretty good job of collecting most of the chips.

I bought this for the Hitachi M12VC router. Took 2 minutes to install, and fit perfectly. Does quite well to keep the sawdust and chips to a minimum, keeping in mind that none of these dust ports on routers can do any more than catch most of it. There's no way to get much of a seal around a spinning router bit. This one does better than any of the others that I have, and is clear. This makes it easy to tell if it gets clogged up.This is made for two specific models of Hitachi routers, listed in the description, and it fits them both. I have the SC version, too, and I use the motor in a router table. I dug out the base, and it fits the same as the VC model. So, if you bought this for your Sears Crapsman router, or can't figure out how it works, you need to report to the nearest Department of Man Stuff office and surrender your Man License. It's been revoked.

I wish I had this from the first time I used my router. While it is an awesome, must have addition, it is absolutely pathetic that Hitachi didn't include it in the router kit.
