Yes it’s just an o-ring but it serves an important purpose which is to seal the valve cover so that there are no pressure leaks. So, simple thing, simple yet important job! Always try to buy OE when you can. It’s more Expensive but they pay their engineers to test these sorts of things for longevity. Considering the old o-ring has 200k/mi on it, I’d say it did a great job!
