It's not at all soft. It’s slightly scratchy. If I use it my baby will wear a soft, thin romper under this one. The hat is just way too small for a baby, it will work as a hat for 15 inch or smaller dolls. When the description said “thermal” I was expecting a soft fabric, like flannel, but this is thinner and scratchier than flannel.

Returned immediately. The pattern is cheaply screen printed on and the size for preemie was closer to 0-3mo size.

Fabric and durable and holds its color ever well! Baby stays nice and warm in it. The fabric is not soft but rather rough. The fit on the bodysuit is good but the hat is to small and couldn’t fit my sons head.
