It’s as much as a fine tool as well as a piece of art. Very sharp and holds an edge better than any other axe or hatchet I own. Only thing it needed was a little more linseed oil on the wood but otherwise it’s perfect and functional.

I felt hesitant to buy a specialized axe over the internet bc I'm particular about my hand tools. However, the Hultafors Ågelsjön (aka. Hults Bruk Jonaker) does not disappoint. Upon opening the package, I was immediately relieved to observe the head is hung straight in-line with the grain of the hickory handle. See attached photo of the knob. Photos in the Amazon listing for this axe do not reveal/sell the beauty of wood grain in the throat or belly very well, but as you can see in the attached photo - they turned out beautiful. One feature you also cannot see in the listed photos is how the sheath has a belt loop made of a reassuringly thick slab of brass-riveted leather. See the third photo. My next step in prepping the axe is giving the handle and eye a seasoning of boiled linseed oil. It looks like it already has a few coats, bt the feel of the handle tells me it could absorb some more. It makes me happy to know that the Hultafors company really seems to be working to honor the Hults Bruk legacy of craftsmanship. Yeah, I threw down some serious money for it - but for what I paid, I feel really satisfied for what I received.

It’s pretty, it’s sexy, it’s magnificent….not enough adjectives to describe how happy I am with this little hatchet. From the handle to the head this thing reeks of the pride of workmanship and quality. It came perfectly sharpened, perfectly packaged with a little book about the company. So yeah dig for a few extra shekels and grab one…you won’t regret it.

Yes I own this. ALL the "Swedish" axes are NOT worth the prices they ask PERIOD!!!! So here is a little tid bit about the expensive Swedish axes...their steel is NOT Swedish it is Japanese and made from scrap metal, it's called Ovako steel and that company is owned by Nippon steel. I am not saying the steel is crap but good on them for selling everyone scrap metal for Beverly Hills prices...LOL If you want to buy one as a status symbol or just to say you own one that's up to you. Some less expensive alternatives are Nedfoss and Husqvarna, just shop around for the best price, also Husqvarna comes from the same Swedish forges as the expensive axes so it's the "same steel".

Yes this hatchet is pricey but well worth it for the quality. I use mine for masonry work to fit concrete veneers and rock for walls. I've tried several different types and brands but this brand is the only one I've found to be up to the task. Also, the short ergonomic hand is the perfect size and shape for the job. I've never used it on wood but if it holds up to rock, wood should be like butter.
