I love silicone ice trays! Brilliant idea. These were a bit smaller cube than I anticipated thus 4 stars.

First I must say that I was a bit surprised when I opened the package after receiving these and finding out that the ice cubes squares are as small as they are. The measurements provided in the item description are accurate -- I guess I just didn't realize how small they'd be. However, I actually ended up glad they're as small as they are because the only silicone trays I could find that offer bigger cubes tend to be MUCH too large for what I would want. These cubes are small, yes, but they work just fine for my needs. That said, the most important thing to note is that these trays (so far) have demonstrated to me that they're good quality overall. Plus, the ice cubes are VERY easy to remove from their individuals squares, and that makes the trays quite simple to use. Lastly, I dunno what it is about cubes frozen in silicone trays as opposed to ice frozen in "traditional" plastic trays, but ice cubes from these types of trays seem to freeze (1) more clearly, (2) more densely, and (3) they last MUCH longer before melting (even though they're small) than ice frozen in plastic. After realizing this, we just threw away the plastic trays that came with our fridge! These are great trays, and they make much better cubes! Highly recommend!

Don't be disappointed by the size when you receive. A little test revealed that these trays hold just as much water as the standard 16-cube plastic trays. These make nice, large square cubes that cool beverages very quickly and melt slowly. The cubes are nearly clear as well making them almost as attractive as my favorite ever ice--Scotsman "gourmet" cubes.Unmolding takes a bit of time compared to the simple twist of a brand-new plastic tray but once you're accustomed to pushing them out it goes quickly and easily. The silicon remains perfectly flexible at below zero F temperature. These trays stack easily and while somewhat floppy it's easy to move them without slopping/spilling.The only drawback of the design is that there is absolutely no provision for air circulation around the individual cubes so they take somewhat longer to freeze than the typical plastic tray. They are however so compact that you can fit six in the same area as three conventional trays.

Rigid may be better for handling when full of water and removing ice from trays (some ripping)

Smaller than expected. But it was actually a welcome surprise. They are the perfect size, both the icecube trays and the ice cubes they make. I love stuff made out of silicone. I'm a health conscious person, and I trust that this material is safe and will not quickly brake down releasing toxins into my food, water, or in this case, icecubes. I don't trust plastics in the same way, particularly around or touching anything I'm injesting. I have seen trays with plastic lids and I'm so glad that was not an option with these trays. The trays are sturdy enough, there's no need for a lid in most cases. While sturdy, the tray are very plyable and the cubes are easy to remove. These are the best icecube trays I have ever owned.

WORK SURPRISINGLY WELL> I was concerned that the individual ice cubes would be too small. They aren't. The icecubes are the right size for a glass of iced tea, lemonade, etc. ~ 1 1/4" X 1 1/4" X 1 1/4"> I was concerned that the trays would be too small. They aren't. The three trays make a lot of ice--45 cubes at a time.> I was concerned that the trays would be floppy, and hard to get into the frig without spilling. They are rigid enough.> I thought that it was odd that one tray is blue. Actually, it is ideal to have one "different" tray. I always put the blue tray on the bottom. That way the ice is never contaminated from the bottoms being in contact with my counter top.OTHER PROS> They stack, and so don't take up much space in the freezer.> I wasn't surprised that it is very easy to remove the cubes from the trays---just flex the tray and push the individual cubes out from the bottom. If you only want one or two cubes, you get only one or two cubes---not an avalanche.CONS> A little difficult to fill evenly.SMELL? ODD TASTE?> The 6 odor absorbing packets stuffed into the trays clearly support the complaints of some reviewers. However, I noticed no problem. I did however run them through a wash in my dishwasher before using. Despite any instructions (I didn't notice any) I'd be cautious about using forced heat drying in your dishwasher, for this, or any other, plastic. Forced heat (a heating coil in the bottom of the washer like one in an oven) is the default setting on many dishwashers, but you can turn it off, which will save your plastic dishes and $$ electricity. My dishwasher does NOT have forced drying and works just fine---metal and ceramics are dry, plastic dishes are wet (but air dry in a few minutes) at the end of the cycle.> Click on “Stoney” just below the product title to see my other reviews, or leave a comment to ask a question.
