Over the years boating I have evolved and know you get what you pay for. ICOM is top of the line so I use their radios on all of my boats and have had their other handheld radios (M71 I think) that worked great. This one is awesome in size and features but upon my first use I was disappointed I couldn't reach my friend clearly on his boat less than 2 miles away. I know radios are typically line of sight and going up to the second story in my house enabled me to reach him but I don't remember having this sorta problem with my previous radios. Also hate how tech companies change their interfaces with each release of a product so you have to buy new chargers, new head phones, etc. No different here....can't use my remote mike from my previous hand held radio and a new remote mike costs almost as much as the radio.

I purchased this radio and it will not let me enter the land channel mode... I can switch between us/can/int but no land channel mode.... any advice?
