Of course, the shovel works. The brush does not. I was using it to sweep up ash and bits of debris off my hearth and into the shovel. The brush was leaving dozens of brush Bristles all over the hearth. I wasn’t even brushing hard, just lightly “sweeping”. Not pleased with this at all. In no time the brush will be bald! Not at all a good buy.

Nice sturdy and durable shovel quality. It’s thick and slightly heavy but appears heavy duty. Its size is perfect for what I need it for. Since I have small kids, I didn’t want to place any dangerous objects near my fireplace exposed. I like this shovel set because I can keep it in the storage room, use it only when I need it, and keep my place nice and tidy, and danger free for my kids.

Great product, the handle length and the thickness are perfect for its purpose. I've cleaned my firepit a couple of times already and this makes it easier to clean everytime.

I have a large fireplace in which I burn wood. No gas logs for me! I have a beautiful, brass fireplace set of tools, including a long-handled shovel which picks up a few ashes at a time . The brush to the set I already own also has a long handle and is awkward to move about. “I’ve had enough,” I concluded in late fall. I spotted this set, identified as a coal shovel and broom and ordered it. It arrived much quicker than I anticipated which was a plus. But what works for me is the size if the metal, shovel pan. It holds 5 or more times the quantity of ashes without any spills because the sides of the pan are high enough to hold the ashes in the pan. And, it’s metal not brass which means easier clean up. Further, the shovel pan can be securely attached to a wooden shaft with two,pre-drilled holes. The pan and shaft are just long enough to reach the back of the fireplace wall, scooping ashes and then dump the into an ash bucket without changing position! There is a leather thong by which to hang it. The broom is of the same, sturdy quality. The lesson for me is that sometimes utility supersedes beauty. Hats off and high five to the producers of this very useful shovel and brush!
