Put this tap through the wringer retapping severely rusted out frame holes for a hitch mount. I thought for sure it would snap on me but it did great.

I needed the tap to chase the the threads on Honda brake calipers because rebuilders fail to protect the threads when they sandblast the calipers. I have a number of Irwin taps and have no doubt that it would easily cut threads in steel. I've learned I can trust American, German, Japanese and Taiwanese metallurgy but not Chinese or Indian.

It works. This size is missing from my tap and die set. The others in the set have more of a taper, but this one is pretty straight up to the end. The taper really helps get started if you don't have the right size drill bit, or there a bunch of rust in the threads.But it still works, so whatev.

used to clean out 6 nasty weld nuts to mount trailer hitch , a lot of work but it did the job , good quality
