What method can be used to etch Product , Indium tin oxide coated glass slide?
An aqueous solution of 20% hydrochloric acid, 5% nitric acid and a few drops of liquid detergent to promote wetting of the ITO surface will remove ITO. If this solution is heated to 55°C, it will typically etch 100 ohm ITO coating in 30-60 seconds, or if the etching is carried out at room temperature, it will take six to ten minutes. Differences in the morphology of the coating, the thickness of the coating (more conductive coatings will be thicker), and changes in the purity or concentration of the acid solution will effect the time required to remove the ITO. Please be advised that ITO coatings can be lost if they come into direct contact with mineral acids and strong organic acids. Therefore, direct contact with these agents should be avoided. After the etching process is complete, the slides should be immediately rinsed in a 10% aqueous solution of sodium carbonate to neutralize any residual acid. To avoid water spotting, blow dry the slides with pure nitrogen gas.

The ito glass slide is made with soda lime float glass. Molten glass is floated on a pool of liquid tin under a nitrogen/hydrogen atmosphere. This high volume process results in glass which does not require grinding or polishing to achieve a high-quality finish. Float glass will typically have a strain point of 523°C, a CTE of 77-85 x 107 / °C, and a refractive index of 1.517. Typical composition of float glass is 72.6% SiO2, 0.8% B2O3, 1.7% Al2O3, 4.6% CaO, 3.6% MgO, and 15.2% Na2O.

1. Cleaning of conductive glass
During the production, packaging and transportation of conductive glass, the surface of the glass may be contaminated by impurities such as dust and grease.
Ultrasonic cleaning is generally carried out in the order of:
toluene → two ethanol → deionized water
The oil on the surface of the glass is insoluble in water, but it is soluble in organic solvents such as toluene, acetone, and ethanol.
Among them, toluene has the strongest degreasing ability, so it is first washed with toluene, but toluene cannot remain on the glass surface. Since toluene is soluble in acetone, it can be washed with acetone. Not only can the residual grease be washed away, but toluene is also dissolved.
Similarly, acetone does not remain on the surface of the glass. Since acetone is easily soluble in ethanol, it can be washed with ethanol.
Ethanol and water are mutually soluble in any ratio, and finally ethanol is dissolved in a large amount of decompressed water.
2. Storage of Conductive Glass
ITO/FTO conductive glass should be stored at room temperature, humidity below 65%, and stored dry;
the glass should be placed vertically when stored. And conductive glass sheets should be separated by a sheet of paper to prevent sodium ions from penetrating into the IT0 conductive layer of the next sheet (see glass structure) ,while preventing the glass sheets from sticking to each other.
Important notes when cleaning
- Professional anti-acid and alkali appliances must be used, such as Teflon materials.

my students were using ITO conducting glasses 50mm x 50mm to make dye-sensitized solar cells. I am quite happy about the results. This size is better than the 25mm-sized ones although the price slightly high.
