THE RACE SERIES

With the Race Series protective gear we offer a whole next generation of soft pads featuring low friction hard shell safety. A hybrid product combining the comfort of a soft pad with the safety of a hard shell guard. We have taken our most successful knee & elbow guards and fit them with a 3D tooled hard shell made of recyclable PP material. The additional shell provides additional safety when crashing. It absorbs the impact over a larger surface and therefore spreads the impact load across a larger range of space.

IXS Knee Protection

SOFT SHELLS

The models manage without hard shells and

are therefore light and extremely comfortable to wear. They are ideal for somewhat harder use and, with the integrated XmatterTM padding concept provide high impact absorption and safety. With the Carve Evo+ and the Flow Evo+ we introduce product properties like exchangeable padding, structurally improved AeroMeshTM of newest generation offering a higher level of comfort and structural strength.

IXS Knee Protection

HARD SHELLS

The protectors provide a high level of safeguard for the knee, as well as for the shin area and are ideal mainly for racing as well as shredding in the bike park and extreme terrains. Manufactured from two components, the hard shells combine optimal safety with outstanding wearing comfort. The patented SqueezeboxTM system allows the protector to move when pedaling and supports a high degree of comfort from the guard. iXS protectors Meet European safety standard EN1621 1 and EN1621 2 respectively.

Man erhält kein Paar...

Used the IXS size guide and ordered a size bigger based off another review but I still found these quite tight and could've done with another size bigger which is unfortunately out of stock, opted to return and buy some endura ones instead. Other than that they seem good quality but I would say aren't particularly lightweight/thin but lighter than some others that I have had.

Have tried Dakine Slayers and TLD Speed Knees before these, but these are 2x better.Very comfortable, soft material. Seems like it wouldn't breathe well, but it's not any worse than other kneepads I've tried. The best feature is the zipper, able to zip these off after riding is like a blast of air conditioning hitting you when you are hot - feels amazing. The strap above the calf also helps a ton to keep these from slipping down the leg, I never have to pull these up, they always stay where intended. The pads are pre curved, and that makes for a nice feeling on the knee. Haven't crashed in the couple of months since I got these but have no reason to think they would be any worse than my other pads.

I love the zipper which allows me to easily take off the pads before long climbs, without having to take off my shoes, and then put them back on for descents. Fell once and pad protected my knee well (though it was a low speed fall around a switchback). While these pads are a bit warmer than some others, the material wicks well and the ability to remove the pads easily helps a great deal.

First off, these run small. I have assumed I’m of normal or slender build, though I do play soccer. I had to go with XL. I bought these b/c I thought it’d be easier to zip on/off vs pulling over. I was wrong. Zipping then on isn’t very easy. All that said, these are SUPER comfortable.

I've worn these knee guards at the bike park as well as on more XC rides with a lot of pedaling. They have performed well. I've crashed once while wearing them, and they worked nicely. They somehow feel lighter than the G-form knee sleeves I'd previously used, and they definitely fit more securely. Once I secure the knee guards, they stay in place and give me a sense of confidence.I find it's best to have the zipper closed when putting the pads on (with my shoes off). I use the zipper more as a way to easily take the guards off at the end of the day. Also, having the guards open like that after a ride allows them to air out a lot better. One tiny gripe: Something (likely the stitching) slightly irritates my shin at the bottom of the guard.

Amazon sent me just 1 pad, not a pair. I am certain that is a mistake and these are supposed to be sold in pairs. Not sure if everyone will have that experience or if this is a fluke. We actually contacted amazon tech support and the guy was like "well, the product description does not say pair." There is obviously a left and right version of these things. Anyway, I had to return it for this reason.I was at least able to evaluate the design of the pad based on the one that I got. I thought the idea of the zipper that enables you to put the pad on or off without having to remove your shoe would be nice, but in practice, it is quite finicky to get the zipper together while simultaneously trying to hold the pad on your knee and fight against the stretchy fabric that is trying to pull the zipper apart. And, if you are not super careful as you zip it up, the flexible style zipper ends up actually skipping teeth, so much that the first time I put it on I ended up with half an inch of extra teeth dangling off the end of on one side of the zipper. They did manage, however, to successfully design a zipper setup that did not get bunchy at all regardless of the knee position, and it has soft fabric behind it so the zipper will not be directly against the skin. However it was still tricky to keep the leg hair out of the zipper while putting it on. Perhaps with practice I would get the hang of it, but I think it'd be easier to just slide it on before my shoe, and so I will probably order the version that has no zipper. You could, however, just zip it up before putting on, and thus maintain the option to remove it with the zipper.Aside from the ordering problem and the zipper oddities, I actually really like the pad otherwise and will order the one with no zipper and hopefully they will send me a *pair* next time. I did not ride with it but I think it has a very good chance of working for me based on trying it on and based on experience with a variety of other pads and seeing which design features work. Here is what I like about it:- In all parts of the pad, the fabric that is against the skin is very soft and so I think it will work well to avoid chafing. I want a pad that works for long XC rides so that is important.- I put the pad on around the house for quite a while and did not notice any pinching anywhere. Other pads I have tried were pinchy right away.- The one strap at the bottom seems like the best setup to me. In my experience, the top of the calf muscle is the one place where the leg has a shape that is tapered outward as it goes down and is therefore the best place to hook a strap to keep the pad from sliding down. Having a strap on the top seems pointless to me. So this design with one lower strap only was part of what made me order this, and after putting it on my knee I still think it is a good idea. I have tried other pads with 2 straps and others with just stretchy fabric and no straps. I think this will be the best setup to keep the pad in place and avoid bunching fabric.- The coverage area of the armor may be smaller than some other pads, but for XC you might consider this the right compromise from a heat balance perspective. The pad covers the knee cap and that big knob that is just below the knee cap, which I guess is the top of the tibia. I have seen plenty of knee injuries during group rides, people who are not wearing any pads, and that does seem to be the area that takes the hits most often.- The pad itself is molded into a bowl/cup shape that seems very appropriate for comfort and flexibility. It really seems to fit well over the 2 knobs of the knee but was also comfortable while standing.- I think it was possible to remove the armor from a fabric pocket from the inside, so that should make it easier to wash the fabric part.- I am so annoyed with all the obnoxious logos on knee pads. At least this black on dark grey setup is more subtle.- CE certification.
