Product Description

Noguchi Kumataro
Noguchi Kumataro

Our company, Noguchi Kumataro Tea Garden (Noguchitokutarosyoten Co., Ltd.), was founded in 1874 in Sashima-gun, Ibaraki Prefecture by Kumataro Noguchi, the first generation of tea growers, and we are now in our fifth generation.

Sashima-gun, Ibaraki Prefecture, has long flourished as a tea production area in the northern part of Japan, and its tea is now called Sashima-cha. Sashima-cha became the first Japanese tea exported to the United States in 1859 through negotiations with Townsend Harris, the first U.S. Consul General in Japan.

We will create a new tea culture while carefully preserving the traditions and techniques that have been cultivated over five generations.

Has the title states, when it arrived I smelled the can and it smelled of some type of chemical / oil. I proceeded to let it air out and the smell did not dissipate. I decided to wash it and the moment I put hot water in the can the water started leaking out of the bottom and the seam in the aluminum. In doing so it showed that the outer coating is not a type of fabric but actually glued on paper. Which now that I consider it, the smell of the interior of the can used to smell of essentially glue. Now that the can is washed the smell is not as prominent however knowing that the can leaks air I'm not sure I would like to put expensive tea in this can.I will probably not use this can for tea and potentially use it for something else or a lesser quality tea. If you spend large sums of money on tea I would highly suggest you not use this type of can especially for boutique and expensive teas. This is definitely a canister in which you would most likely put large quantities of tea in, specifically daily quality teas.
