This was indeed as easy as it says to install - unscrew the old one, screw on the new filter, with oil already installed no muss no fuss. I was worried it would be hard to get on or off based on other reviews, but it was a really simple process.

This is a clever idea but the old filter is very difficult to remove. You need to press-down HARD and rotate counterclockwise a 1/4 turn. The problem is that you have no purchase on the filter, and pressing hard down and turning at the same time is tricky. A complication is that the locking mechanism is made of pressed steel that is very rough and snags on itself - particularly as it has been heated and cooled many times between oil changes: locking it in place. It took about 30 minutes NOT seconds and a full strap wrench and some gentle tapping with a mallet to unseat the old filter. It took so much effort to remove the old filter that is was significantly distorted. This is poorly executed and more trouble than it is worth.Consider getting the conversion kit to revert to a traditional filter.

When they say this is a simple way to change oil, they mean it. If you take more than 90 seconds to replace this filter/oil reservoir you are doing something incorrectly (even 90 seconds tells me you are being careful about it). Not only simple but the cleanest “oil change” you will ever perform (the reality is that you are changing about 70% of your oil, but if it is ok with John Deere it is ok with me).Major downside is the price but materials would still cost something, my time is worth something (not that much, but something…) and there is value in pretty much completely eliminating the risk of a user-caused mistake or mess (entirely possible in my case). Therefore, I am not too hung up on the price (but it is a lot so some people might be justifiably unhappy with it). Another problem is disposal. Places have tanks for used oil and bins for used filters. Where does a big “filter/reservoir “ go? Some establishments have been apprehensive about taking them.
