It is great to have refills (2 of each of the 36 colors in their own numbered tubes), so the Kaco KALOR mechanical pencils will last beyond the leads they come with. The leads are high quality, with rich pigment. They are packaged to avoid breakage, in the pencils and the refills. I have not had a single lead break yet, and I use firm pressure about half the time. Not a single lead has broken.The leads are what I would call a medium soft, easy to use. I love how the spare leads are protected from breakage, and extremely easy to insert into the pencil when the original lead has been used up. Pull off the colored cap, insert the lead in the sleeve, slide it down, put the cap back on, and click until the lead appears, sharpen as necessary with the sharpeners (2) provided with the original mechanical pencils. Functionality doesn't get any easier :)

I love the face that they even thought to do something like this and make them available and not just make the mechanical coloring pencil and once you use it you have to buy another one to replace it.
