Fits perfectly on my violin. Doesn't make any direct contact with my tailpiece. I would like to note that the clamp is made of plastic and NOT metal, which I actually prefer because I have sensitive skin with nickel allergies.

After all of the reviews I had read about how low this chinrest was, I expected it to be much lower than it is. For me, it is definitely NOT like "almost having nothing at all." It is, in fact, still too high for my poor little neck.

I’ve been struggling with shoulder pain when playing the violin and this has definitely helped. Nice quality chin rest.

We were given an old violin by a family friend. My daughter has a nicer violin, but I want her to have a less expensive one to take to school, camps, etc... After taking the donated instrument to a luthier, I was told it is a intermediate-level violin and needed a couple hundred dollars to get it in playable condition. Instead, I decided to restore it myself because I am fascinated by the complexity of the work that goes into an instrument. After some minor woodwork to repair unglued seams (do a lot of research before you attempt, it's all really cool!), I am now upgrading the fittings. My daughter is pretty specific in her preferred style of chinrest, so it was nice to find the right shape/style for her. The chinrest is nice, comfortable and sturdy. It's a little bigger than her other chinrest, but she says it's comfortable and is happy with it.

I loved the item. Finally I found the perfect chinrest to enjoy my playing with my violin. If you feel that your chinrest is higher for your neck and this issue cause stiffness for your shoulder and neck then you will need to buy this chinrest to make you feel better.

I bought this to replace the chinrest that came with the violin I purchased. The Kaufman style fits me perfectly - I have a short neck so its height is just right, and my jaw rests comfortably on it. It was very easy to install as well (though I had to google it to figure out how to!)

This chinrest was too high for my needs. I use a Kun shoulder rest and needed a very low, flat chinrest. I had to return it.

I had purchased a student violin kit from a local music store. The Chinrest that came on it was a little tall and made my neck hurt, especially if I used the shoulder rest too. Under the advice of my violin teacher, he advised that I get a "standard" chinrest (like this one). Advice followed. I found this one prime and ordered it.This chinrest fit the bill. It shipped with no issues and arrived quickly. The installation was easy enough with the instructions provided. I had it on my violin by the next week's lesson and neck pain has gone away. You will need a "tool" to install it and they are not expensive. I have a husband with an extensive set of tools and picks so he had something that would work and I did not have to purchase the separate tool. Be warned if you go this route, the tools made for his are designed not to damage your violin. If you use an "alternative" tool, take great care not to scratch your instrument. I would actually advise spending the money and purchasing the correct tool. They are not expensive.
