I wasn’t sure that nylon eye straps were a great idea. After all, most of the ones I see on the market are stainless steel, which seems to be the norm. But I decided to take a chance and see what showed up. What I received didn’t seem all that impressive visually, but I noticed that the loop I was playing with was fairly difficult to bend in my hands. So, I figured a real test was in order! I have a very large bench vise mounted on an all steel welding table. I clamped one of the loops in the jaws sideways and tied off with a good length of paracord. Tugging and snapping on the cord just resulted in dragging the bench a little bit.I put on gloves to try again, I was determined to snap the eye of loop in half, but no go. Finally, I inserted the loop into the vise so that the eye was lined up front to back, rather than side to side. I slowly squeezed the jaws shut until it compressed so far that the screw holes were touching. Still no sign of a crack!Releasing the jaws allowed the loop to slowly unfold, and I was able to completely open it with my hands. Some of the resistance to bending had lessened, but there weren’t any signs of stress cracks. In fact it appears the loop could be screwed down and still used anyway! 😳Tough, tough material, very impressive! My only gripe is that the loops are a bit too small for some bungee hooks to fit. Otherwise a truly superior product!

30 QLXHBOT nylon eye straps were received (count verified). All were well formed with no manufacturing flaws found.Dimensions in the listing matched check measurements (see picture relative to a quarter). However one key dimension was not listed, that being the distance between the mounting surface and inner eye, which measured 3/8". Note it was just 3/8", no more, so if you need to ensure free running of line you'll probably want to use 5/16" diameter or less.Eye strap material is listed only as "sturdy nylon". Nylon is not naturally UV resistant, hence not ideal for longer term outdoor installations, however resistance can be enhanced through additions of UV stabilizers during manufacturing. There is no way to tell visually if the nylon used for this product has stabilizers and nothing is mentioned in the listing, so a question mark remains regarding suitability for longer term outdoor use.Included screws are stainless steel. Magnetic testing evidenced negligible magnetism suggesting they are marine grade, probably 304 (18-8) stainless steel. The screws extend 5/8" beyond the base of the eye strap when inserted in the mounting hole. Note, included screws are flat head with tapered sides but the strap eye mounting holes are not tapered, they are flat. The included screws will work but with little bearing surface against the screw head. However I tested a #6 pan head screw, which has a flat base, and it fit perfectly. See the picture for comparison of the included screw (left) and #6 pan head screw (right). For greatest strength I would mount these strap eyes with #6 pan head screws.Note, I removed one star from the rating due to unknown UV resistance and less than ideal included hardware.I'll use these eye straps for all sorts of light mounting jobs and lash points below deck around the boat. I am confident they will serve well for such applications. I would not use them if failure might result in significant property damage or injury.
