The Chive series features Kershaw's SpeedSafe ambidextrous opening system for smooth, easy opening by both right and left-handed users. Closed, the Chive is less than three inches long, perfect for pocket carry. This Chive has a handsome Damascus layered steel blade. This material is formed by taking several different steels and hammering them together, folding them over and repeating the process until there is a multitude of layers and the effect is extraordinary. The black and silver alternating layers are strikingly beautiful and many believe that Damascus steel blades get sharper than other steels. All Chives also feature the Safety Tip Lock to ensure the blade stays securely inside the handle until the user releases it, and a removable pocket clip for easy carrying. The Chive may be the smallest member of the "Onion" family, but it's got all the advanced features knife users demand. Great blade, compact, and sharp. I've owned about 6 of these because I forget I have them in my pocket when I go to the airport. This one with the Damascus blade is the sharpest by far. Just FYI, the ones with colors other than stainless are just a little thicker. I prefer the stainless.

Very useful pocket knife, that is as sharp looking as it's edge. Absolutely pleased with my purchase.

My second Chive. Had first for 10 years, everyday carry on keychain before confiscation at airport - don’t forget. Broke my heart. Damascus blade i absolutely beautiful. Handle is strong & adds to great looks, but slippery, hard to hang on to. Wrapped half handle with KT TAPE, FUNCTION BEFORE LOOKS when razor sharp blade is at other end. 1.9” blade is max for normal keychain carry. Love the knife & tremendous customer support from Kershaw - they define USA GEAR.

It is a hard to find small knives that are as well made as the Kershaw Chive at any price. These are a great value. The Damascus steel blade on this model is a bonus. A great value for the money spent. Good looking too. Don't plan on chopping fire wood with it, the knife is quite small. It is very nice to slip in or clip to your pocket when you don't want to draw attention to your blade. I with they made more colors like the do with the Scallion and Leek model knives. Comes out of the box shave sharp!

Great Knife!I read the reviews on this knife and got a little worried. People were saying that it would not open all the way. I got it and sure enough, it didn't flip open all the way. The good news was all it needed was some GOOD lubrication. By GOOD I mean I used Ballistol. I'm sure there are others but I had success with Ballistol. First I tried some gun oil and I need better gun oil. The gun oil helped, but not enough. I then sprayed all the moving parts with Ballistol and spent about an hour while watching TV just opening and closing the knife. It started to flip open no problem. After sitting over night with the Ballistol on it it now springs open very easily. So... yes the knife is tight when you first get it, but after some GOOD lubrication... springs open. Great little Knife.

I love this knife! I bought one as a Christmas gift and loved it so much I ordered a second one for myself. I was after a knife that fit comfortably in my pocket and had a durable, sharp blade to open boxes, letters, and cut twine and small rope. This knife does all of that well! Kershaw's speed safe blade opening feature is really cool too. I catch myself flicking the blade open constantly. It's very satisfying for some reason. The Damascus steel blade is durable, sharp, and great looking.I would have given it 5 stars but I had one delivered to the wrong address, then had two with a sticky speed safe. I was able to adjust the action on one by turning the screw that holds the blade and it now works like a champ. The other had to be returned to the seller. As a side note, I contacted Kershaw and they said they would service the knife for free as a courtesy since I had just bought it, even though I bought it from an unauthorized dealer on Amazon. They also said this knife is no longer being manufactured and that this must be "old stock".

Not for everyone.I'm a big fan of the Ken Onion line at Kershaw. After carrying all of them for awhile I have come to the conclusion that the Chive works the best for me as a "gentleman's knife" and is most appropriate for everyday usage and light duty. It takes up little space, the smooth handle does not tear up your pants when used with the pocket clip, nice action and shape, wicked sharp out of the box, etc. I don't carry this for defense.Admittedly; a gentleman's knife is partly jewelry. The basic Chive is nice looking, but the Damascus steel version is even nicer and more noteworthy. Is the blade "better"? In theory it is harder, will hold an edge longer, but it is more likely to break, chip or corrode: You decide.IMO the deficiency with this model (as a piece of jewelry) is the "basic" stainless handle. Of the other handles currently available I consider the to be the nicest looking and most appropriate for pairing with the Damascus blade. Others will likely have a different opinion. One downside is that the highly polished handles suck fingerprints out of thin air.So I got the Damascus model and the Boron polished model and I swapped the handle and blade to make what I consider the ultimate piece of Kershaw jewelry. Outside of my wedding ring I wear no other jewelry, not even a watch.Funny what one can get obsessive about, huh?The other knife made of the "reject" parts is also kind of interesting and very functional. I use it around the house for light duty stuff.HTH
