The Kestrel DROP D3 is designed to monitor and record a full suite of environmental conditions, including temperature, humidity, heat index, dew point temperature, station pressure, density altitude and pressure trend in a variety of indoor, outdoor and industrial applications.
Kestrel DROPs are ideal for monitoring conditions in manufacturing, transportation and shipping, shooting and hunting, facilities management, agriculture, healthcare and pharmaceutical organizations, firefighting, the military field, and recreational and in-home use. Put a DROP virtually anywhere and ensure safe conditions when you can’t be there.
The Kestrel DROP D3 logger can be placed wherever needed to monitor and log temperature, humidity, heat index, dew point temperature, station pressure, density altitude and pressure trend. The data logs are retrieved wirelessly and automatically through the Kestrel Connect app when within range (up to 100ft.) of your iOS or Android device.

Wireless, Powered by the Kestrel LiNK App
Kestrel LiNK is the free app that powers the DROP loggers. With Kestrel Connect, you can view real-time readings from any DROP logger within wireless range (100’ or more line of sight) via Bluetooth low energy. Each phone or tablet can connect to up to 8 DROP loggers at the same time and store data logs from many more. Min/Max/Average readings are clearly displayed and the log is viewable as a scrolling graph with detailed data for each logged point. The app also allows adjustment of the logging interval and other settings as well as real-time threshold alerts. Readings can be updated as frequently as every 2 seconds and logging time and date are automatically updated whenever connected to your smart device. Send and share real-time and logged environmental data via email, Facebook or Twitter.

Each DROP measures just 1 x 1.8 x 2.4 inches (24 x 46 mm x 60 mm) and weighs just 1.2 ounces (34 grams). Amazing that the Drop 3 app will display Station Pressure, but not Barometric Pressure! Be advised: "There is no barometric pressure reading on the DROP D3. Currently only station pressure is provided. Station pressure is the pressure felt at the current location without adjusting for altitude."Incredible that baro pressure is not an option when the app could easily accommodate the data in the Drop 3.And as others have noted, the battery will drain down, since there is no on/off feature. This could have been built into the Status button, like maybe a double press might toggle on/off....but no such luck. Have to either remove the battery, or reinstall plastic battery tab. Crazy design for the price!

Well made, easy to use with phone App. Seems to be accurate. Very handy/convenient. Made in USA. The blue-tooth range is limited.

I was initially quite disappointed with the accuracy of this device. Testing it against known temps were giving wildly inconsistent responses - 5 degrees high, 10 degrees low, it was awful. Then I walked away to do something else, came back a half hour later and it matched the control temp. It is cool and calm today. Setting it outside with no wind blowing, it seems to take 5-10 minutes to settle in and match my control device. I'm ok with that, as my primary objective is learning how cold it got outside my tent last night while I slept. It should do just fine for that. It won't be so useful hanging off my pack as I hike since that's constant movement in and out of shade and wind currents, but that's ok.

The unit I received had been used before. The box was not sealed, the battery tab had been pulled, and there was data in the log dated 3/8/2018.

Boggles my mind that it only provides station pressure and not adjusted barometric pressure. Seems a trivial calculation within the app.

In these days of persnickety Bluetooth gadgets that fall in and out of pairing, this device works ... all the time ... with multiple devices. Just crank up the app and it downloads logged temperature and humidity data, everything since the last download.
