I bought 2 extinguishers for my house - 1,000 sf. I wanted to be well prepared in case of an emergency. I mounted them on the wall at reaching distance. Better to be safe than sorry, right?

I like the 4 pound model with the hose. It should work well if we ever have to use it. I hope we don't.

I have 5 10lb extinguishers, 2 4 lb extinguishers in my house, started with just a 10lb in the garage and the 4lb in basement. 2 years back on July 1st (it was a very dry year) the field behind our place goes up in flame due to a neighbor playing with fireworks. While waiting for the fire department to respond, a person 3 houses down says his garage and carport are on fire. I run and grab the 10lb and start jumping the fences in the backyards. About the time I get there another neighbor having the little 1lb kitchen unit shows up. He jumps around the corner and sprays, for what seemed like 4 seconds and says, I'm out. I jump back there and go to town with the larger unit. I stop the flames from growing due to the field still burning I know it is only time. We are back there about 2 more minutes when it ignites again, I spray a little more and put it out, then a minute longer it goes up again, my extinguisher is now out. I just turned to run to go back to get the 4lb unit when I am hit by a wall of water. The fire department came thru the field to get to the houses. If ever in doubt what size extinusher you need. Go bigger. After that is when I bout the 4 larger 10lb units. And had the original refilled.Fast forward to now. I wanted a extinguisher for my offroad rig. After measuring what I can fit where, I opted for this 4lb unit. I will get a 2.5lb unit to go under the front seat as well, but again, this is one of those circumstances where bigger really is better. I used some steel stock to mock up a bracket mount, used the USCG approved bottle mount found here on Amazon and grade 8 hardware everywhere. I am fairly certain there is no way this is coming off even in a accident (should be a major concern to us with pressurized steel bottles in our trucks), even if it did come off, it would have to work its way out from under the rack, then thru the 1" cargo netting. I feel the passengers are safe. The handle is blocked by the rack support beams so nothing can accidentally fall on and break the top off. The valve assy is all metal so it is very stout as well, perfect for my use, and like everyone hopes, I hope I never need to use it.

I just got my extinguisher and I hope I never have to use it. This review will cover everything but actual use.The unit was pack very nicely in a amazon box filled with rolled newspaper. This was likely due to past complaints of other fire extinguishers discharging during shipping. It appears Amazon has resolved this issue as my extinguisher was safely shipped. The shipping was not delayed as amazon advertises on the description. I ordered mine on Saturday and they were at my door on Tuesday. I am a prime member, but the order still advised me it would take an extra 2-3 days. The extinguisher is fairly heavy for a household unit weighing in at 7.5 lbs with 4 lbs of actual extinguishing agent inside. As someone who has a lot of experience with fire extinguishers in the navy and now the power plant industry, I can say this unit appears to be of very nice quality. Obviously not to the standards of the ones I have used at work, but for an affordable household unit I feel this extinguisher would be hard to beat for the price. Also included in the box is inspection tags if you want to get your extinguisher inspected annually by fire department personnel, but it would probably just be cheaper to buy a new extinguisher or get this one refilled every 10 years or so. It also has a "Fire Extinguisher" sticker for labeling this units location. That would be useful in a office or place of business, but not so much in a home. This unit has also been discontinued on Kidde website as they don't mention it anywhere and have new models available. I emailed them and they quickly replied (the next day) and also provided me with the part number of the holding strap for the unit as I could not find information on that either. If you are interested it is part #466400. You can find it on Amazon, but for some reason it is not available on Amazon's "insert a product link" I have not purchased the strap yet, but figured it would be helpful information. If I had to make a negative comment it would be that the cylinder should be taller. When you discharge CO2 you are suppose to have a metal cylinder like this on the ground to prevent the buildup of static electricity. No big deal, and probably won't be a large problem with only 4 lbs of agent to discharge.Pros:+High Quality+Great Price+RechargeableCon:-Short CylinderOverall, 5 stars and a must have for a safe home.
