I'm writing this 4 years after I bought this thing because I just replaced it with an Insinkerator and I'm reflecting on why I lived so long with this miserable thing. It creates absolutely no suction - zero. And the rubber insert is so stiff you have to stuff food down it with your fingers all the time. I even cut some slits in the rubber, and that did little to help. Sure it's powerful and quiet, but a misery to live with.

This was a great addition to our kitchen remodel. It installed easily in our new sink, and came with all the necessary hardware to tie into our plumbing. Though our existing plumbing had to be modified, due to farmhouse sink. One reason I went with this model is, it is a little shorter then competitors model in this price/sound range. Which we needed given the farmhouse sink already cost us a few inches. We actually still have over 6" tonthe cabinet. It is extremely quiet, you can't really hear it over the running water once food has been "disposed". Seems to dispose of food very well too! Have been using now for a few months with no issues!

Our garbage disposal went out unexpectedly and we had to purchase a new one quickly. I did some research and found this one on Amazon at a great price. It is a Consumer Reports best buy too! We even took a chance and added the installation option and boy are we glad we did. The service folks quickly contacted us to set up an appointment, checked in with us to reconfirm the date and time and even showed up when promised. The guy had it installed in no time and was friendly and professional. The garbage disposal is so much nicer than the builder's model that came with our house when we bought it. It is so quite you can barely hear it when it runs and it does a great job for our family. I highly recommend this to everyone!

My wife wanted a QUIET disposal. My wife is now happy. We all know what that means.Seriously, we've had this for several months now and it seems to be great product. I see some negative reviews and suspect they are legit, but mine has been great. I was able to re-use the old in sink (er-ate-er) mount so the install was really quick. It's a BIG unit so make sure you have enough space for it, and you may have to shorten a drain pipe or two (which is easy when they are plastic). The rubber drain baffle that sits in the drain to prevent stuff from splashing out, is placed in from the top (instructions were not clear about this), but it's great because it's so easy to remove and clean. It also stays put otherwise.

Quiet, powerful -- we love this. We've had no problems with this after a year of use. It is so quiet -- we have an open kitchen, and we can run this without disturbing conversation. If people notice the sound, they think it's the dishwasher -- amazing! Be aware that it is really large. Our house was built in the 1950s, and the pipe for outgoing water from the sink drain is maybe a foot higher than the floor. The bottom of this garbage disposal was lower than the pipe in the wall, and we had to hire a plumber to install this and ensure that it wouldn't get backed up. Also, check closely for missing parts before installation. Ours was missing a small component, which KitchenAid was willing to quickly ship for free. Between the special installation and the missing component, we had to wait awhile to use our kitchen sink! We were second-guessing the purchase and hemming and hawing about whether we should possibly have purchased one of the compact, but louder, disposals. But now that this is installed, we couldn't love it more. We have an open kitchen and this thing is just unbelievably quiet.

While replacing countertops and the sink, I thought I'd replace the 8 year old Insinkerator garbage disposal figuring it was getting a little long in the tooth and fate would probably have it die the day I finished the kitchen. Researching disposers, the KitchenAid had a great warranty and the reviews raved about how quiet it operated. My wife was very skeptical and couldn't really grasp the concept of a quiet garbage disposal, but after it was installed she's now a believer. It seems to grind quicker but it really is amazing how it does it so quietly as well. It's no easier or harder to replace than any other disposal, although even at a good price it's a bit more expensive. For the small price difference, I'm glad to spend it on for the apparent good quality and lack of noise.
