Recently purchased for beach kite flying. Highly recommend getting this reel! It was easy to clip onto the kite. It allowed it to flying to become more fun as it was easy and fun to reel in. One of the kids said, "It feels like we are fishing, but with a kite!" It was well worth the purchase! Buy the reel!

Decent light duty kite string reel. If you're planning on using this, and you've got adult sized hands, order the 8" reel, as the 6" reel is sized for a child's grip.The reel comes equipped with 3-strand kite line, typically good up to 50lbs. tension - decent for small and medium sized kites, with wind speeds up to 20mph.Note that the ball bearings in this reel are made out of plastic. I've heard that excessive outfeed can cause them to heat up and get damaged, though I have not experienced this.

I got this kite reel specifically because it's considerably smaller than the other ones I use and I thought this size would be a better fit for the kids. The hand grip area is much smaller than my larger reels, it makes for a better grip for a child or adult with smaller hands. The reel seems to work ok and for the most part looks pretty good. I really like the folding handle. So far there are two things about it that I'm not very fond of. First is the line guide, I could tell it was all metal from the pictures but I couldn't see exactly how it was made. After closer inspection I don't like the way the hole in the metal is rolled, the edge to the inside is somewhat rough and I don't know how long I would want to trust the line riding against it. I am going to replace is with a fishing rode style kite line guide. The other thing is that this reel is noisy when rotating, it's pretty loud in comparison to my other reels. So much so that I thought maybe there was something wrong with the bearings in the reel I got, I thought maybe some balls were missing due to the gap shown in the close up picture. I was informed that the gap is normal and the sound is normal due to the materials the reel is made with.
