May be good on large debris and certain kinds of pumps. I have a small pond that I was going to empty and fill in. Haven't had fish for several years. Started emptying it and there are a couple of nice sized frogs living in it. So, decided to just empty some of the dirty water and start with fresh. Before I saw the frogs my sump was pumping the water with no problem. Saw the frogs and put the bag on so they wouldn't get sucked into the pump. Stopped pumping? Picked it off the bottom and held it in more clear water. Wouldn't pump? Took the bag off and successfully emptied the pond to the level I wanted. I think this will work on a pump that has relatively good debris protection built-in and will help keep some of the larger items from stopping your flow.

Previously I had literally hundreds of trumpet snails getting into my pond pump. Now it’s about 10 snails each time I clean the filter that got in-the extremely small ones. So this bag does a great job of keeping them out.
