Insulated high leverage diagonal cutters require 21% less effort. Insulated grip is made of two color dual component handles 1000V VDE-tested. The high cutting performance is due to optimum co-ordination of the cutting edge angle, transmission ratio and the ergonomically handle shape. The precision cutting edges are induction hardened to approximately 64 HRC and will cut medium hard wire up to 4.2 mm; hard wire up to 3.0 mm and piano wire with maximum 2.5 mm diameter. The forged-on axle offers a high level of stability for heavy use and long service life.

These are the best diags on the market. I use them for electrical work. Required no break-in period, 1000V rated, and sharp for life. I went with the 8" instead of the 10" because another reviewer said the handles were too wide with the jaw all the way open, and that's nearly the case with the 8" but they're perfect for XL hands. Mild nuisance that Knipex has 2 identical 8" models, one ends is "SBA" and the other "US". Supposedly just a packaging difference so buy whichever is cheaper.

You cannot go wrong with a Knipex side cutter. Cutting cables is just a breeze if you are using this tool. The VDE grip has a good feel on hand is useful so that your hand will not slip forward. The precision and quality of the blade is precise. I prefer atramentized black finish with tools that require more force. This high leverage cutter is a must for every tool bag.

My brother turned me on to Knipex tools. Slowly I've been buying these tools for my project bag. I use these tools when I'm working with electrical around the house. They seem to have an "attitude" like they're not going to take any garbage and they just manhandle any job they need to do. It's a pleasure to use these tools. The grip and feel are first rate. Quality is impeccable. This line of Knipex tools is rated for serious voltages with thick rubber handles. Tim the toolman Taylor would be proud! Highly recommended.

I bought this to replace the same pair that got blown out when i made a stupid mistake on a live circuit. It's worth mentioning that although i kinda wrecked the tool, i did not get a shock, the insulated handles work perfectly. I haven't found one yet that cuts better, whether cutting wire up to about 4 gauge or screws or heavy ceiling wire. The one i replaced was on the job over 5 years and still cute like a brand new tool. I actually carry both the new pair and the old one now. The hinge never sticks, the grip never slips. I can recommend knipex for all electrical tools, i have a set that includes a pump pliers, lineman pliers, needlenose, and 3 screwdrivers in addition to the diags. They're all rated for 1000v and they're all top quality, they've replaced my old kleins. Many coworkers are jealous to see these on a job, they're kind of a sign of a seasoned electrician to have this stuff in your tool bag.

Knipex 7408250SBA 10-Inch High Leverage Diagonal CuttersThese are outstanding cutters but your glove size needs to be at least XXL to operate comfortably with one hand. By “operate”, I mean to easily open most of the way by holding the tool near the far end of the handle. My outstretched XXL hand is 10" from thumb-tip to pinkie-tip and these are probably too big even for me. You could just slide a hand toward the jaws or use two hands, but if that’s what’s needed, you might just as well get 8" cutters.Quality is superb and my cutters open and close easily; i.e., hold one handle up sideways and the tool immediately opens up on its own. They cut easily and cleanly. The 10" length provides 25% improvement in cutting leverage with a 2" longer reach. The extra thick "comfort grips" are, in fact, very comfortable and offer protection from high-voltage shocks. The Customer Image shows this tool (74-250) on top and well-used Klien Journeyman 8" cutters on bottom -- to put this tool’s size in perspective.

Almost perfect , just wish they had the angled option for flush cuts.Update: Ive had these & babied them for the last 3 months in my veto pro bag. I opened them all the way on day and now they are seized and cant open or close. I cant see anything stuck in there. I wonder if there is some kind of warranty? If you get these, Don't open them all the way like I did!Ive had to update my rating accordingly. Still Knipex fan though

They may cost a little more than some of the name brand cutters but the quality cannot be beaten even by the super expensive tools you have to buy from the tool dealer's truck. I spent a couple of dollars more for the insulated handle model for the occasion I do hot work but mostly for the bright orange and yellow that makes them harder to lose. I tried cutting some .018 inch diameter piano wire and it didn't leave a mark in the cutting edges. I will cut 1/0 stranded copper insulated wire easily; I didn't have any larger wire readily available to try it on. The finish may not be as polished as the super expensive cutters, but I'm more concerned with good metallurgy and proper temper than pretty; it is a tool to be used. Knipex does make chrome plated cutters for those who feel they need them. These should last me the rest of my life and more as long as I don't lend them out. I still have the last pair of wire cutters that I lent with the specific instructions not to cut live wires; they are the ones I hand to anyone that wants to borrow.
