These are light and very flexible which makes them versatile. I doubt they would stop someone with a bolt-cutter and some determination, but they will surely take care of casual, light-finger pilferage. I've bought two of these which I am looping through the hardpoints in my car's trunk and then padlocking to Pelican cases. I plan to do some camping this summer while leaving a lot of expensive gear in my car; the cases will be loaded with stuff I really can't afford to give away. Without these cables, I would be seriously inconvenienced if someone merely smashed a window, popped the trunk, and made off with my kit. With a couple of these to help things stay in place, at least the hypothetical miscreants will have to go to some trouble to extract and open the cases. It'll take more effort and time than I think most smash and grab thieves will want to spend.

Security cables are either too skinny (like this 5mm version) or too fat (like the 10mm versions). Almost any cable can be cut easily and I'm not sure this one is enough of a deterrent. For what it is, it is still made well.

Nice cable. I use it to secure my helmet while at work. It is easily defeated by cutting with wire cutters but works well as a deterrent.

Way thin!. Take away the plastic housing and you have a cable 1/8" diameter. Very, very thin. Mine's the 4 foot, by the way, if that makes a difference. Just to see how badly I wasted my money, I pulled out my trust box cutter, new blade, and with 4 sharp cuts in the same spot I had cut through this cable. No cable cutters required. Might be good to lock things up in your garage to keep the kids out of stuff they shouldn' play with. As for "extra" protection, don't bet your seat, front wheel, saddle bags or anything else on it. Really, seriously disappointed in this since it has the Kryptonite name on it.

It's solid and dependable, and comes in the original packaging. A word of caution: what you see in the photo is what you get — the length really is not that long! But it's more than sufficient to loop this through your U-lock and a rear bicycle rack with shopping baskets.

Good for extra security, arrived quickly, and as described. As everyone says, DO NOT rely on this to fully lock your bike, but use it as an added security (on top of Kryptonite U-Lock, and skewer locks if you're paranoid like me and have had wheels stolen as well as an actual bike).By the way, I have no trouble at all locking both wheels to my U-Lock. I have a 52-cm Cannondale. I do one loop around the back wheel and seat tube, one around the front wheel, and I only put one end of the cable around my U-Lock.

This is the smaller, thinner looped cable.If you are looking to secure a motorcycle or even a bicycle, forget it: this is not enough to withstand any cable cutter.I bought it to secure my camera case when shooting on site. I used to simply put a padlock on it but then I caught a guy "borrowing" the whole case, because he "though it was his" (yeah, right).With this cable I might not be completely thief proof but it will take more than just picking it up.
