My mechanic installed these shocks for me on my first generation Toyota Sienna. I haven't driven very far with them installed yet, but my mechanic had no complaints about installing them and they seem to work fine so far. The shocks did raise the back of the van a bit and I'm wondering if it will always be raised or if they will compress with time.

The package arrived with one of the upper mounting shock missing the 2 top nuts. As it is I cannot install this shock.

For reference, I bought and installed a complete set of front and rear KYB Gas-a-Justs. These shocks installed easily and fit well. They perform about identically to the Monroe GasMatic shocks (yellow) that I removed from the car (one of the Monroe's had leaked out all it's fluid). My application was for a fairly heavy (5000+) lb car and these give it factory dampening + bound/rebound performance. I would suggest Monroe's Reflex shocks to stiffen up a heavy car like mine, and I wish I had bought those. I expected these to be an improvement over Monroe GasMatic and they are not, they are the same. They do have a more slender design than most Monroe shocks which helps them avoid contact with my exhaust pipes.

Bought for a 2001 Sienna and they fit perfectly and were easy to install! My old shocks had worn out and these were a great upgrade over OEM and my van handles great again. The instructions included information on environmentally disposing of old shocks which was a little confusing on first blush, but all I needed was the hardware for the top of the shock.

I've used KYB shocks on my other vehicles and this one did not disappoint. It's made in Japan and is beefier than the KYB 343149 Excel-G shock which helps when the van is fully loaded with passengers or stuff. Installation is straightforward, but the instructions are really poor (only has pictures). I wished the shocks came with a top washer & rubber bushing already installed on the shaft because when you cut the retention band, the shock expands and it is almost impossible to get those two items on the shaft & into the upper mounting hole before the shock expands fully. I had to jack up the body about 3" in order get enough space to install the fully expanded shock (hard to compress while laying under the van). Be careful not to jack up the body much higher as the suspension spring might come flying out (with a lot of force) as the suspension expands. The ride with these shocks is really comfortable and the rear wheels no longer vibrate/shake at highway speeds (wasn't a tire balancing issue). Well worth the few extra dollars to get the KG5522.

When I cut the plastic band on these shocks, they immediately expanded to full length. When I tried compressing them with my two hands, I could not do it. I had to press one end against the garage floor or a block of wood. Needless to say, the stock Toyota shocks were shot. They could be squeezed in and out like an accordion which is why both of my rear wheels had been bouncing like a basketball and were chopped up badly. Some would describe this as cupping. Either way if you hear a loud wobble sound on any of your tires, it is likely due to uneven tread wear caused by shocks that have no resistance and do not press your tires to the asphalt. Here is a little installation tip: I installed one side at a time using my Sienna's scissor jack. Unlike the recommended instructions, I found it easier to attach the bottom of the shock first. If you do this, you will have to slowly lower your vehicle while directing the top arm of the shock into the upper wheel well slot. Also, the included shock instructions are worthless. You will need the repair manual for your vehicle or a good YouTube video. Thank God for all the altruists who post such useful do-it-yourself videos on YouTube.
