This makes excellent sounds and takes a bit of effort though cleans up play style. And forces the chugging exhales.. for sample taking and effective portraits

These legere reed prices keep going up, probably just because everything else is and they want to jump on the band wagon also.So I started buying the Harry Hartman reeds instead. sorry legere.

I have been playing alto for a little under a year and normally use a Yamaha 5C MP and Vandoren V16 #3 reeds. The Legere Studio #2.5 has a decent sound, but for me has two major problems. The highest and lowest notes are much more difficult to play than with the V16s, and the high F# (using the right-hand key fingering) is almost impossible to play. A bigger problem is attack and decay when I tongue notes. The intonation at the very start and end of each note seems to be flat, or otherwise out of tune. The problem is non-existent with cane reeds. These observations are based on playing the Legere during three one-hour practice sessions. I have stopped using it now but may try it again in a year or so after my chops have matured a little.

I was looking for a synthetic reed that gives a classical sound- this one is just very stuffy and hard to blow though.

Sounds good straight out of the package. No conditioning needed; no warm-up needed.. It offers clear and consistent tone that's easy on the chops and I'm getting a good dynamic range (for a 2.5). I can set the sax down for a moment and pick it back up dry and play. It handles moisture like a champ too and doesn't get oversaturated. It's not absorbing spit like cane, so there's less of a yuck factor -- if it gets grimy you can just clean it with some water (and soap probably?). Someone else playing my sax doesn't have to be an intimate moment of sharing spit now. could probably rinse the mouthpiece with the reed attached even.yes, a good cane reed in its prime can sound better.. and reed-ier? but in real life, they rarely do -- more often they are in some stage of dying and/or only respond well only in a certain range for a limited time or some other quirk (harder to play or has to be adjusted just right, etc).. This offers true consistency -- every time I pick it up I know what to expect. No more rotating thru a collection in my case. no need to remember which reed I used last Tuesday..

I thought that this was the perfect answer to use beside the wood or bamboo reeds, Well it does take some time to get use to the synthetic reeds, My daughter stated that it felt like her lips and mouth were getting cuts, It took a learning curve for her to get use to them. For the price it is awesome , they last forever it seems like, more so then her wood reeds that we have to change at least twice a month if not more, I would recommend these reeds, they are durable, and sound great, and the staying power is there and worth it.

I did much searching on the old internet before selecting this product, based on experts who have actual played the Legere reed. I have a #5 Gioliotti Maestro mouthpiece, and the 2.5 works well with it, (I might want to try a 2 sometime, though, just for comparison). The ONLY issue that I have with this reed, (and not really an issue), is that the texture is so smooth, if I'm not careful and don't tighten the ligature enough, it will slip off the reed. Not really a problem with the reed. I've read where this reed should last for at least a year - I've been playing on it now for about a month, and would've gone through at least 4 natural reeds during the same period, so I'm hopeful. I don't really notice a big difference in tone, and this one plays as good as or better than standard Rico reeds, (which I typically used prior to the Legere). Based on the performance of the 2.5 reed, I'm now going to buy a 2 and perhaps a 3 (for my #3 mouthpiece). This is a good product, and you can find it on Amazon for a lot less than brick and mortar music stores.
