I use this slicer exclusively for slicing cabbage to thin strings like I have seen in Japanese restaurants. It did a great job, make it easy to eat cabbage and a side cabbage salad makes the main dish look more appetizing. My son who normally does not like raw veggies can eat cabbage salad now.

Although I couldn’t use this for something like cheese (to make it like string cheese), I was able to use this to peel some cabbages and onions. This is fairly easy to use, especially since the parts of the slicer are separated. The safety protector ensures that I don’t have to grip onto the vegetables with my bare hands. Overall, this slicer works well for the meals that I cook - I will continue using this for all my vegetable needs.

I'm not professionally trained or anything but have a little chopping skills just by past experience and this item seriously cuts the time in over half plus is so much easier to do. This is a great starter, durable and super easy to clean. Highly recommend this for the great price and ease of use!

Mandolins are quite simple devices. All they need is a solid surface and a slightly elevated blade to slice against. And yet, this one failed me.The plastic is so thin and weak that the mandolin bends and bows with light pressure. If I press my vegetables down just enough to do the slice, it make the mandolin bow enough to create an uneven cut. No matter what I did, I never got even slices--everything come out with a thicker end that narrowed down to nothing. I would press my vegetables on lightly and evenly without and angle, and after a while the vegetable would be angled because every single cut was uneven. So I'd flip it around and go some more to balance it back out. This is not how you're supposed to work a mandolin.The blade was sharp enough to be effective. I only used it once, so I cannot comment on durability or if it stays sharp. I will be buying a new mandolin, since a mandolin that produces uneven slices defeats the purpose of a mandolin.

This is a really basic mandolin. However, there are no additional parts so you have the blade/mandolin and then the protective handle. I think I would give this more stars if it was smaller (this thing is over a foot long) and if the quality was overall better with more blade options. You cannot change the thickness of the spices either, which could pose an issue for some folks.
