This is a great design for wine opener I wonder why it is almost forgotten, even I can't find it in Le Creuset store. This tool makes wine opening so easy and fail safe there is no way to break the bottle cork even if it is in bad condition. The long handle makes it easy to turn and without any pulling the wine is opened. The product was originally branded as Screwpull and now branded as Le Creuset.Together with the foil cutter, it makes a great gift for house warming party.

Easiest corkscrew to use I've ever seen. But "original"? It's practically identical to one I had for many years under the name Screwpull, that finally broke, revealing a weakness. But failing to find anything I like better, I'll hope this one lasts for years as well. That weakness? In order to store the handle inside the frame, the square wrench-head has to be as narrow as a cork, so the material isn't as thick there as a plastic wrench ought to be. Make that part alone of metal and the corkscrew might last forever.I give it four stars on account of the weakness, but maybe it should get 5 anyway, on balance.

We've had the original Screwpull version of this corkscrew for over 35 years, maybe even close to 40 years. The plastic plug at the end of the screw cracked when a friend accidentally cranked it too hard working on a very stubborn cork. Got this Le Creuset version (they bought out Screwpull back in 1991) and it's the same great corkscrew. The old one might have been slightly more beefy, but not much more. This one works perfectly, actually a bit smoother and easier than our old one. Don't waste your money on anything else, this is the one to get hands down. Take it from someone who knows wine and has opened countless bottles of wine during the ownership of our last corkscrew like this with ease every time.

We have gone through numerous openers with various pro's and cons. The traditional "bar tenders" opener is plagued with the lip chipping flaw, the rapid clamp & uncork units (like the Houdini) are bulky and the cork screw damages easily requiring replacement. The novel pronged cork slip & twist style is fraught with glass damage, broken bottles, bent prongs, and hand cuts. The "angel wing" traditional styles as I call them are among the most reliable out there, but still have a tendency to damage corks or be screwed too deep (user error). The electronic versions are just a fancy, but flawed version of this and their reviews (I have no personal experience with them) are riddled with anecdotes of overheating, weak, poor battery life, and excessive bulk for something who's sole purpose is to uncork a bottle.I have had this unit once before and it was then best then as it is now! So why did I try so many other styles if this one was so great? Because it's plastic. Don't get me wrong, it's a good strong plastic (ABS I think), but I had searched for something that was of metal construction.Cons:This unit has 3 separate pieces that assemble together for easy storage, but the hold is weak and there is potential for one or more of the pieces to come separated from the group and get lost.If you are too aggressive with the screw handle, you could risk damaging it.The built in foil cutter is flimsy against the plastic frame, you'd do well to use a separate cutter.Pros:Non-Marring matting to the bottle lip that will not damage, ship, or scratch the bottle.Easy to start corkscrew that I have never had an issue with damaging/bending or needing to replace. One finger effortless and ergonomic action to uncork.Self uncorking, no need to screw a guessed depth and then use leveraged force to uncork.. This design screw & uncorks in the same action, resulting if an effortless and perfect uncorking every time!

Very functional, light-in-weight cork screw and quite convenient to carry. I have used several different cork screws for decades and this model works best for me. The metal screw is strong and is a "wound" style, instead of the "diecast, solid center" type, as solid centers must displace more cork material and so can often be too tight, meaning more difficulty to screw in and out, and more likely to damage the cork. The Le Creuset allows quick cork removal (natural and man-made) with little fuss. The handle can be removed from the spindle and placed over the screw for storage, convenience (it travels very well) and safety. I favor this specific model over almost every other cork screw puller, regardless of cost and design. It is my favorite, hands down. Note: try to find this exact model when buying as others do not measure up.

This is the best wine opener ever made. OK, I haven't tried them all, but I have a piece of art in my living room made up of 3,600 wine corks and that isn't half of the ones I have.I know this was designed to use as a travel wine opener or for outings, sure use it for that. However, I have a bunch of expensive wine openers in my kitchen drawer and even a table top unit. I am going to give them all away and keep this one.It comes apart and fits together so it takes up no space. The top lever expands to give you better leverage and has an opening you can stick your finger in to twirl as you unscrew. It doesn't look that sturdy, but in daily use it has stood up well for over two years. What makes it the best is how easy it is to use and how fast it opens a bottle of wine. I need to get a glass in my wife's hands as soon as she puts on that apron. She cooks with wine and occasionally puts it in the food. What do you call a meal without wine? Breakfast!
