  • EASY SPINNING FIBER: we pre-drafted this super soft BFL roving to thumb thickness so that beginning spinners can concentrate on their hand movements rather than drafting. Made from the finest softest combed top available - you will quickly see why a lot of experienced spinners prefer BFL to Merino. Blue Faced Leicester is a longwool with a staple length of 3-4 inches with slight curl and fine crimp. It spins into a beautiful, lustrous yarn with great resilience. 26mic.
  • HAND DYED TO PERFECTION: careful kettle dyeing in small batches allows us to create tonally complex, vivid coloring with nuances that can only be achieved by hand dyeing. We are proud to offer these variegated colors to discerning crafters who appreciate the unique qualities of hand dyed fiber - no two skeins look exactly the same.
  • DROP SPINDLE: 1.8 ounces, the perfect weight for a beginner. Solid Hardwood with a notch in the whorl that keeps your spun yarn in place.

Product Description

Kit includes everything you need!

Learn to spin your own yarn!

This beginner spinning kit includes everything you need to start learning to spin your own yarn:

  • Solid wood drop spindle - Weight 1.8oz and Whorl Diameter: 2.5"
  • 1oz of pre-drafted BFL roving fiber
  • Written instructions with a link to a video demonstration

What is pre-drafted roving fiber?

Standard roving fiber usually comes in a thick rope that spinners often peel apart or "draft" into an appropriate thickness for the yarn weight they want to spin. We draft our BFL fiber to about thumb thickness. In other words, the work of drafting has already been done for you. This allows a beginning spinner to concentrate on the hand movements of spinning, get into a spinning rhythm and experience quick success with a new craft.

What can you spin? A new adventure awaits!

Ply solid colors together to create even tonal variations. With the Beginner's Spinning Kit you are set up for success and can apply your new skills to any spinning challenge!

When you've made your first hand-spun yarn, refill your fiber!

Use this kit to learn the basic drop spindle spinning techniques, then go wild with drafting, blending and plying! Our BFL fiber is available in 1oz and 4oz packages if you like working with it and want to practice with one of the other 40 hand-dyed colors. There is also a whole world of spinning fibers to explore, with different characteristics to help you achieve the unique yarn of your dreams. Check out a few of our options below!

Been using comb top I got from elsewhere but I've been having a grand time spinning yarn! I've made my second one thus far and it's longer and more even than my first 😁 happy with this product, and there's nothing I'd change! Was packed safely and I kept the box to keep the spindle in when not in use
