The new LEICA R Adapter for the first time gives users the opton of deploying almost any Leica R lens ever built with their Leica M. The camera menu lists more than 20 different R lenses from wide-angle, telephoto and zoom through to macro lenses, including calibrated imaging workflow and EXIF lens detection. The wide selection of lenses opens up new application options to Leica M photographers, HD video recording in conjunction with the Leica R Vario lenses and using lenses with focal lengths longer than 135mm.

Unlike another user I found no slack in this adapter at all, my Novoflex of the same type is not the perfect match, some movement. It's a great solid fit and works with all my R lenses on an M-P 240. If you need more than 135mm on your M you need to use R lenses if you want to maintain the Leica quality and look. This adapter is also 6 bit coded so allows the full Leica R range to be manually selected from the lens list on the camera for lens correction and also adding the right EXIF information in the image metadata.

A bit expensive but worth every penny for Leica glass.

I own 4-5 Leica cameras and about a dozen lenses, maybe more, including the Leica Telyt 400 and 560 lenses and the more modern Telyt 350 and 500 lenses. I use this adapter to fit the Leica Telyt R lenses on my Leica M240 and for astrophotography at infinity, on the Leica Monochrom.I bought this adapter after using several versions of generic brand adapters made in Japan or made in china. All of the adapters I have purchased, INCLUDING the expensive Leica adapter, have "play" in them and cause/permit movement between the lens and the camera body.I was hoping that the slop I encountered in cheap knock-off adapters would be completely alleviated with the genuine Leica adapter but there is still movement and it negatively impacts the sharpness of the photographs to the point where even on a tripod I have to use the 2-second shutter delay to alleviate the movement, although I suppose I could use a remote shutter cable and get the same result. The Leica adapter is "less loose" than the knockoff brands but the fact that it is loose at all is a problem because the lens/camera movement causes a noticeable reduction in sharpness in the photos. I can't use this adapter handheld--only with a tripod. And even then, only if I consciously alter my normal method of taking pictures to hold tension of the body against the lens in an unnatural way that doesn't 100% obviate the problem.EDIT: One feature that I didn't appreciate when I first bought this adapter was the tripod mount that accompanies it--the mount is optional and bolts on with two hex-key threaded bolts. On most of the large lenses tripod mounts already exist, but on the Leica Telyt 500 (I'll try to post a picture) there is no tripod mount and the adapter is perfect for this lens. I've also started using it with the R 50mm f/2 which is an excellent lens with a minimum focus distance of only 20 inches (compared to the Noctilux 0.7 meters of minimum required distance from the subject). I add spacers to the R-adapter and fit the 50mm on a tripod and it is a fantastic macro lens.So I've increased the rating by one star to accommodate the newly appreciated features of the adapter.***Note also, that embarrassing as it is, I've put a thin strip of gaffer's tape on the surface of the adapter where it meets the R lens mount and this thin strip (approximately 1/8 of an inch wide and long enough to circle the perimeter of the lens mount once) is enough to make the fit of the lens on the adapter sufficiently tight that there is no more "play" in the rig. I feel a bit like an amateur garage doofus for using gaffers tape on a camera and lens arrangement that cost >$10k but on pro shoots I see gaffer's tape being used for all sorts of things--too bad this Leica mount is one of them. I added the gaffers tape to the offshore knockoff mount and it made that mount sufficiently tight as well...
