The artist which received this as a gift told me that he was trying to place the paint as thin as possible, onto the item. he thought this was a painting knife. I know this might have been intended to scrape the paint from the sides of the container, with my needing to explain that might be used to thin the paint more completely than a brush, as part of experimenting. That is where the role of this product does have some, ambiguity.
