I burned myself on the first use. Blisters and all. I got the lodge grill pan and figured hey it’s lodge so they know their handles stink on their grill pan making them terrible to remove from, well…anything. Don’t trust your fingers in these unless you want burnt skin and wasted time. This pan was on direct heat, yes. But that’s what these gloves are advertised to be able to handle. They are clumsy and large (my hands are a women’s large.). They take time to put on and they go up really far which is silly since they don’t protect even your fingers from being burned from 10 seconds. Thankfully I survived wiser. Dont be alarmed by the fire. I read your supposed to “season” the lodge pan by cooking bacon on it 3 times before trying to cook anything. Yes, it caught fire. Yes, it was impossible & heavy and couldn’t be moved. Yes; these gloves were useless. Yes, I’ve still using and enjoying the grill pan. Makes amazing food, albeit insanely heavy. Like as heavy as a Le Creuset enameled cast iron 13 quart Dutch oven.

I bought these specifically, to give me added protection while doing outdoor Dutch Oven cooking. They work great!

I was pleasantly surprised. These are longer and heavier than a pair of Lodge gloves I bought about fifteen years ago.

These seem to be the same as generic welding gloves, just over-priced.Also, RED gloves are actually BLACK.

Good for hot cast iron skillets

Overall they are pretty good and have good coverage on my arms. However the heat from the cast iron goes through pretty easily so I need to use an extra towel if I'm carrying it for longer than about 10 seconds. Short trips from the oven to counter are fine though, the heat doesn't start to penetrate that quickly. I would purchase again.

These are fantastic gauntlets. Work great for handling hot skillets, working the fire, and any time your handling hot metal.Work way better than welding gauntlets in my experience.I beat the snot out of mine and they hold up amazing.A+!

I brought these for my work aboard an old Tall Ship this Summer, and they've been proving invaluable. In the mail these came stinking like ripe plastic, and it took weeks for the smell to go away, but eventually it did (and a couple washes later). Otherwise, they fit well enough for "100% cow split leather" (although when accidentally left on the coal stove for a while, one of the gloves now has a part of it that appears to have melted and scrunched up on itself), and they've been very durable and temperature resistant. Although you can't touch anything red-hot with these or you'll feel it through real quick (I know from experience). The extra length is a plus for blocking heat, and of the same "hide" material as the rest. So overall these pretty bulky and tough gloves have turned out great for my needs.

These are excellent gloves, and although they are not actually marketed for the particular area of expertise, I have found they are excellent for sweating pipe and not worrying about the toasty warm copper.I do like them for Dutchy cooking as they add volume to the baling wire flip up handle you're supposed to use to lift your camp stove off the heat or out of the oven. It ends up being quite a bit of iron and food to lift with only 3mm of wire in your finger grip, and I prefer to feel my fingers [not in pain] after I set the dutch oven down.I have also used them for S'MORES over a fire [using approved sticks in the forest or consumer rated tridents] to keep the back of my fingers from burning up.Seams are well tended and the inside is smooth without any tight spots. Outside doesn't have any stains (when they were new) and the red was consistent without unsightly blemishes in the leather.

If you enjoy dutch oven cooking and want to be as safe as possible while doing so then get these gloves. When using a lid lifter to check the contents of the dutch oven these gloves will help protect your hands from the heat and from accidental touching of the super hot dutch oven. Also remember dutch ovens are cast iron and once up to temperature the cool very slowly so you can use these gloves to move the oven when not sure if it is cooled off or not. For safety purposes these are a must have. The gloves are well made and should last quite a long time.
