Filled it with records, picked it up by the handle, latch unlatched, and the case dropped open. No apparent way to keep the latch closed so you can't carry it by the handle.

Style over function.The front latch does not hold the box closed when you lift it by the handle, rendering the carrying handle useless.

First off, the case itself (empty) is very lightweight and feels cheap. What I liked was that the lid actually stays attached to the case versus a similar one from Crosley. However, the biggest issue is the locking latch mechanism is completely crap. It does not stay latched, as soon as you lift the handle and pick up the case, it pops open, and I tested this WITHOUT any records inside. Disappointing.

This record case fits about 18 of my albums; It would fit 30 if they were all singles in envelopes. Most of mine are double- or triple-gatefold, so I get fewer. That would be fine for my uses, but the latch can't even hold its own weight, let alone another 5-10lb of albums. Going to try to swap out the latch with something more sturdy to save it.

On the bright side, this case has thick, insulating walls, great not only for mechanical protection but also for avoiding brisk temperature variations that can cause warping in old records. The inside padding is a textile material with the right softness, well selected for the purpose. For the size, this case actually feels lightweight. Both the main body and the lid feel sturdy, on their own, but the way they are attached to one another… not great at all.On the downside, very bad idea to cheapen out on the hinges and the latch. And cheapen is not harsh enough of a word this time: incredibly bad quality for these parts, especially for the latch. And there is a single latch, sure to take a lot of stress even with a half-filled box. If you get this case just for storage, the problem may be only a nuisance, but if you plan to carry around records in this case you first have to replace with proper hardware the lid attaching parts, and preferably put two latches to be safe. This is yet another to-do on my list. As is, the lid rattles when carried around, and I would not entrust a single, cheap record to be carried in this case. For the current price, there is no excuse for the abysmal quality of the lid attaching hardware. This case would have been a full five stars product with proper hardware for the lid, everything else rates high in my opinion.

I went to close the latch and the top of the latch and the screws popped out, indicating there were no nuts securing the screws in place (can’t check because the felt is covering the inside of the lid).
